Netflix‘s hit drama series Virgin River is based on Robyn Carr’s beloved book series of the same name. The series chronicles the lives of the residents of the sleepy town of Virgin River who have more drama and entanglements than you might expect.

While the first several seasons of the show have chronicled the romance between nurse Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge and bar owner/former Marine Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), an Easter egg from a season three episode may hint at what new characters we can expect to see when Virgin River returns for season 4.

How many ‘Virgin River’ books are there?

Carr began writing her Virgin River book series back in 2007, but the New York Times best-selling writer has been a novelist for much longer. Though she initially wanted to become a nurse like Mel, Carr’s husband’s career in the Air Force meant they never settled in one place for long. Then amid a challenging pregnancy that kept Carr on bed rest, she began reading romance novels to pass the time. It wasn’t long before she began penning her own stories.

Since 2007, she has written a total of 21 Virgin River books. They are:

‘Virgin River’ Season 3 has a major book Easter egg

Virgin River already has a vast cast of characters including Mel and Jack. However, an Easter egg from the third season of the series may hint at who will be introduced in the upcoming fourth season. In a recent Instagram post, Carr pointed out the Easter egg buried in an episode of the show.

“If you’ve watched the @netflix Virgin River Series season 3, did you notice the copy of MOONLIGHT ROAD on Lilly’s coffee table?,” she asked. “MOONLIGHT ROAD is book #11 in the Virgin River Series, the story of Aiden Riordon and Erin Foley. Have you read their story?”

For those who don’t know, Erin is a bougie woman who heads to Virgin River to recharge. While retreating, she meets Aiden, a Naval doctor who has his own drama with his ex-wife. Now that Carr has pointed out this book in the third season of Virgin River, fans believe that we might see Aiden and Erin’s story come to life in Virgin River Season 4.

When will ‘Virgin River’ Season 4 debut?

Though Virgin River is a massive ratings hit for Netflix, the streaming platform has not yet officially renewed the series for a fourth season. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s not in the works. SpoilerTV has reported via Express, that the fourth season is currently filming in Canada and it is set to conclude filming in November 2021. If this is true, we can expect Virgin River Season 4 in mid-2022.

While learning more about Aiden and Erin would be nice, we still need to know who shot Jack.
