‘Virgin River’: Alexandra Breckenridge Says She Was in ‘Excruciating Pain’ While Filming the Show
Virgin River is one of the most beloved series on Netflix. Based on the book series by Robyn Carr, the show follows Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), a nurse and midwife who leaves her life in Los Angeles behind for a fresh start in Virgin River. What Mel doesn’t expect is to fall for Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), a retired Marine who is also the owner of the town’s bar.
As much as Virgin River is a love story come to life, Breckenridge says she was in a great deal of pain while filming one season of the series.
‘Virgin River’ Season 4 has completed filming
Though season 4, is wrapped, Breckenridge says it was no easy feat to film during the brutally cold winter in Vancouver. When talking about the season 5 filming delay, she shared some of the challenges she experienced with season 4. “I’m hoping that maybe we’ll start in the summer,” she explained on Instagram Live via Express. “It would be nice to film in Vancouver in the summer rather than the winter. To be quite frank with you guys, I’m pretty done filming in Vancouver in the winter. Not really interested in doing that ever again actually, it’s really cold. And when you’re standing outside in sandals and little outfits because it’s supposed to be the middle of summer, it’s not (good).”
Still, nothing was worse than the health scare the This Is Us actor experienced amid filming for season 3.
Alexandra Breckenridge says she was in ‘excruciating pain’ while filming season 3
During season 3, fans finally got to see Mel and Jack’s relationship blossom, but Breckenridge’s dental health had her in shambles. “I just wanted to point out there are a few scenes on the show where I was actually in the most excruciating pain, besides childbirth, of my life,” she shared via Hello! “Apparently the tooth had cracked or chipped at some point, we don’t know when, but over time that crack widened, it wasn’t infected but the root was dying, the nerve was dying. I was having to take breaks and sometimes I would be on my knees breathing at my chair. But I had to continue to work because that was on the schedule. So I’m at work, horrible pain, the scene where I was eating sushi. That is what I was filming that day! I had to eat sushi with a tooth that was broken.”
Thankfully, Virgin River director Monika Mitchell called for emergency medical help: “They gave me half a root canal to get me through the weekend,” Breckenridge explained. “She called her dentist and said, ‘Please help this poor girl!'”
When will season 4 premiere?
As warm and inviting as Virgin River is, making it through the winter and an emergency root canal was an ordeal. But hopefully, it will all be worth it when season 4 premieres. The fourth season of Virgin River wrapped in early December 2021, but Netflix has not yet announced a release date.
Typically it takes at least six months for a series to move through the post-production process, so it’s likely we will see new episodes of Virgin River in the summer of 2022.
