Netflix’s Virgin River might be set in a stunning small town, but the drama series has some massive storylines full of shocking drama, secrets, and lies. The show follows Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), a nurse/midwife who moves to Virgin River when her life in Los Angeles crumbles around her.

Mel quickly finds herself engrossed in the town, and in a romantic entanglement with the town’s bar owner, Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson). Mel is running from her past and Jack has his own secrets buried, but they aren’t his only ones. Jack’s friend, Detective Mike Valenzuela (Marco Grazzini) also has some dark secrets lurking below the surface.

‘Virgin River’ fans are convinced that Mike is the father of Charmaine’s twins

Though Mike appears to be Jack’s friend Virgin River fans are starting to think that something sinister is lurking below the surface with the retired Marine. In fact, some fans believe the ladies man is actually the biological father of Jack’s ex-girlfriend Charmaine’s (Lauren Hammersley) unborn twins, not Jack.

In the first season of Virgin River following their breakup that Jack initiated, Charmaine revealed that she was pregnant with their twins. Later, when Jack revealed this information to Mike, the police detective looked absolutely stunned.

His reaction was a lot more than someone who would simply be empathizing with a friend. Now fans are desperate to know what else Mike is hiding.

What is Mike’s dark secret on ‘Virgin River’?

From the outside looking in, it appears that Mike is a standup guy. However, if he is in fact the father of Charmaine’s twins all of that “good guy” business goes out of the window. Moreover, Mike also appears to have a fixation on Jack’s sister Brie (Zibby Allen) though she’s expressed her lack of interest. Also, Brady (Ben Hollingsworth) who served in the Marines with Jack and Mike has hinted that Mike is hiding a dark secret from their time in Afghanistan.

During a drunken meltdown in episode 308, Brady lets some of Mike’s dark secret slip. “I’m the bad guy, and you’re the hero? I’ve paid for the crimes I’ve committed,” he said. “Can you say the same? You’re afraid everyone’s going to find out that you’re not such a hero after all. I know what you did in Iraq, Mike. You’ve got blood on your hands just like everybody else!”

Clearly, Mike has done horrible things and he could be doing them again in Virgin River.

Did Mike have something to do with Jack’s shooting on ‘Virgin River’?

Though Mike doesn’t appear to have any beef with Jack, if he is in fact the father of Charmaine’s twins then there would be a reason to get the bar owner out of the way. Moreover, it’s clear that he hates Brady and that he seemingly had no issue framing the younger former Marine in Jack’s shooting.

Virgin River fans are stills scratching their heads when it comes to the circumstances surrounding Jack’s shooting, but we do know that Mike couldn’t have pulled the trigger. Just before Jack was shot at this bar, Mike was seen across town speaking with him on the phone at the police station.

Still, that doesn’t mean that Mike is innocent. He was too eager to lock Brady up for the crime. “The audience will be genuinely surprised at who’s behind all of it,” Virgin River showrunner Sue Tenney told TV Insider.
