‘Virgin River’ Season 6: Is [Spoiler] Dead?
The drama never stops on Virgin River. The romantic Netflix series returned on Dec. 19 with a new season focused on Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack’s (Martin Henderson) long-awaited wedding. While the preparations for their big day were the emotional heart of the show’s 10 new episodes, there was plenty going on with the show’s other characters, including a shocking twist involving one person in the finale’s final moments.
[Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Virgin River Season 6.]
Calvin threatened Charmaine after she got custody of their twins
In this season of Virgin River, Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) had her hands full with her twin babies, who finally arrived in last year’s Christmas special. Jack’s former hookup was also navigating a tricky – and potentially dangerous – situation with the twins’ father, Calvin (David Cubitt). The resurrected drug kingpin wanted custody of his sons, but Charmaine fought back, and won full custody of the twins.
Calvin didn’t take that well. He showed up at Mel and Jack’s farm, where he made it clear he blamed Jack for keeping him from his children.
“Because of you, [Charmaine] thinks I’m an unfit father,” he said.
“Oh, I think she figured that out all by herself,” Jack replied.
Calvin then warned Jack to “back off.”
“No one’s going to keep me from my kids,” he said. “That includes you, Charmaine, and anyone else that becomes an obstacle. And as you recall, I’m very good at removing obstacles.”
Calvin’s threats prompted Jack to ask his sister Brie (Zibby Allen) for help getting Charmaine an order of protection. Meanwhile, Brie’s cop boyfriend Mike (Marco Grazzini) said he’d keep a close eye on Calvin and step up patrols in Charmaine’s neighborhood. Charmaine was grateful for their support, but she was clearly rattled by Calvin’s threats.
Charmaine goes missing in the ‘Virgin River’ Season 6 finale
Though Charmaine had a lot on her plate, she still stepped up and volunteered to do Mel’s hair for her wedding. But when the big day finally arrived, Charmaine was a no-show. She sent Mel a vague text, saying that “something came up.”
At first, everyone assumed that Charmaine had an emergency with the babies, or that perhaps she decided she didn’t want to see Jack get married after all. And with so much else going on, no one had too much time to worry about where Charmaine was. But when Mel still couldn’t reach her the next day, she grew concerned, especially given Calvin’s recent threats. Jack tried to downplay her worries, but he agreed to swing by Charmaine’s house to check on her.
Jack makes a disturbing discovery at Charmaine’s house
As soon as Jack arrived at Charmaine’s, there were signs something was amiss. The front door was open, and the house was in disarray and there were signs of a struggle. Most alarming, there was no sign of either Charmaine or the babies. Then, Jack cautiously stepped into the nursery.
The camera didn’t reveal what Jack saw in the babies’ room. But a look of horror passed over his face before the credits began to roll. Our guess? He saw Charmaine lying on the floor, and that she had either been knocked unconscious or killed. Either way, it seems likely that Calvin is responsible. Chances are, he attacked Charmaine in her home, possibly killing her, then kidnapped the twins.
But would Virgin River really kill off Charmaine? Anything is possible, and we won’t know for sure until the show returns for season 7 (fortunately, Netflix renewed the series back in October). But our guess is that she is injured, but not dead. Virgin River has had its share of dark moments, but killing Charmaine off in such a brutal fashion might be too much for the feel-good show, especially now that she’s moved from villain to sympathetic character. We predict that the first few episodes of season 7 will focus on the frantic search for Charmaine’s babies. She’ll eventually be reunited with her children, and Calvin will finally end up behind bars, where he belongs.
