‘Wandavision’: A Deleted Scene From Finale Confirms Señor Scratchy Fan Theory
Marvel’s wildly popular Disney+ sitcom Wandavision has finally reached its conclusion. Starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda and Paul Bettany as Vision, the show has had many Marvel fans discussing amongst themselves what certain story elements mean.
Although many of the fan theories found on social media and discussion boards were incorrect, a few were partially correct. One, in particular, was a theory that there was more to Wanda’s pet rabbit, Señor Scratchy, than meets the eye.
Wandavision director Matt Shakman recently confirmed the Señor Scratchy was supposed to have a big payoff moment in the finale, but it was removed at the last minute.

During a recent appearance on the Fatman Beyond podcast, WandaVision Shakman revealed that the final episode initially included a scene that directly related to Señor Scratchy.
“We did have something more planned for Señor Scratchy, which we ultimately couldn’t do, just because the finale with so many different chess pieces …” Shakman said.
Señor Scratchy was supposed to turn into a demon
According to Shakman, the scene featured Billy, Tommy, Monica, Darcy, and Ralph sneaking into Agatha’s basement to steal the Darkhold. The scene was supposed to be an entire “Goonies setpiece.”
“We did have a whole sequence where Darcy, Monica, Ralph meet up with the kids and they’re in Agatha’s house and they think that maybe they should steal the Darkhold from the basement, ‘cause the kids had seen it when they were down there being held hostage by Agatha. They go down there to get the book. They’re reaching for the book and the rabbit hops up in front of the book.”
From there, Señor Scratchy was supposed to hiss at the kids after they attempt to pet him, and then transform into a big demon as “Agatha’s familiar.” However, the production team felt the plot point would have caused the show to deviate too much from the primary storyline.
Shakman also did not confirm that Señor Scratchy was Mephisto, which is what many fans had speculated.
Matt Shakman felt the fan theories were a distraction
Even though many fans enjoyed speculating about Wandavision’s narrative points throughout the season, Shakman wasn’t feeling them.
“Some of them might find [that] charming and wonderful the fan base is so smart and knowledgeable that they can create theories that are better than the ones that we created in the room, of course, but we’re building to this rover set piece, which I have worked my butt off on for well over a year,” Shakman said. “Creating this rover, and all of a sudden, everybody wants to know who’s going to meet her there and I know it’s going to be this wonderful actress who’s playing Major Goodner. And it’s not going to be Reed Richards.”
Shakman felt like the conversations were distracting fans from the narrative he had meticulously developed.
“I want people to be interested in what is the origin story of a different character that Monica Rambo is becoming, and instead we’re being distracted by somebody else,” Shakman said. “So yeah, the director, or producer, in me is like, ‘Oh, don’t run with that one,’ because I didn’t want the focus to shift from what was important [which is] the story of Monica traveling through that axe.”
The final episode of Wandavision aired on March 5.
