Watch ‘The Best Man’ Reunion With Morris Chestnut, Terrence Howard, and Other Cast Favorites
More than 20 years after the release of The Best Man, the gang is getting back together for a reunion. The classic film brought together an ensemble cast that included Morris Chestnut, Sanaa Lathan, Monica Calhoun, Terrence Howard, Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Harold Perrineau, Melissa De Sousa, and Regina Hall.
Rather than meeting up at a resort, cast members are meeting up on the screen to revisit the hit dramedy, and fans are invited to tune in for the special event.
How to watch ‘The Best Man’ reunion broadcast
April 13 marks the launch of Hollywood Homecoming, a new digital series from the American Black Film Festival. The inaugural episode celebrates The Best Man by catching up with the movie’s director, Malcolm D. Lee, and actors from both the original and its sequel, The Best Man Holiday.
Lee will be joined by Morris Chestnut, Monica Calhoun, Melissa De Sousa, Taye Diggs, Terrence Howard, and Harold Perrineau to reminisce about making the movie and its impact on Black cinema. For some actors, the film featured them in what’s considered their breakout roles.
Fans can view the trip down memory lane by streaming it on ABFF PLAY, a free streaming platform. The first episode will also simulcast on the IMDb Homepage, IMDb Twitch, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
Tune in on April 13 at 6 p.m. EST/3 p.m. PST for the nostalgic occasion.
‘The Best Man’ franchise put love and friendship at the center
The first Best Man movie — released in 1999 — introduced Mia, Lance, Harper, Julian, Quentin, Shelby, Jordan, Robyn, and Candace. They weathered sexual tension, platonic relationships, friendship drama, and marriage jitters.
While Lance and Mia made it down the aisle in the funny, heartwarming flick, things changed in the 2013 sequel.
More than a decade after Mia and Lance’s wedding, the couple invited the crew to join them for Christmas. There were also martial struggles, confrontations among friends, and fun moments, but Mia dropped a bomb and revealed she had terminal cancer.
Everyone finds ways to reconcile, love, and celebrate before Mia’s heartbreaking death. By the end of the movie, there’s a new baby and Quentin announces plans to marry someone new.
The first film raked in more than $30 million while part 2 brought in more than $70 million at the box office. A follow-up had been teased for years but was finally confirmed in early 2021.
Another ‘Best Man’ sequel is in the works
In February, Peacock shared the news that it ordered a 10-episode limited series for The Best Man. The new installment will pick up after the events of The Best Man Holiday with all the original cast members, except for Calhoun.
Titled The Best Man: The Final Chapters, the series is being written and executive produced by Lee and production is set to start in September.
According to Deadline, the show will “catch up with Harper, Robyn, Jordan, Lance, Quentin, Shelby, Candace, and Murch as relationships evolve and past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance.”
