‘Weak Hero Class 1’ Explained: Finale Teases the Possibility of a Second Installment
The newest K-drama, Weak Hero Class 1, tells the riveting story of systemic bullying in a school setting as one student fights back. Yeon Si-eun (Park Ji-hoon) is an academically gifted student. But when class bullies push him too far, he snaps. Along the way to standing up for himself, he makes a few friends but gets caught in a string of threats and violence. ‘Weak Hero Class 1’ has Si-eun gain new friends and bullies
The November K-drama begins when Si-eun becomes fed up with his class bullies, despite asking multiple times to stop. His bully, Young-bin (Kim Su-gyeom), becomes fed up with his demeanor. Young-bin sees an opportunity when a new rich student transfers to the school, Oh Beom-seok (Hong Kyung). During the mock exam, he blackmails Beom-seok to stick a Fentanyl patch on Si-eun’s neck.
Realizing what is happening, Si-eun smacks himself into coherency, shocking his classmates. When he gets a wrong answer on the mock exam, he breaks. He uses his academic knowledge to stab a pen into one bully’s hand and uses a textbook to beat Young-bin. His display effectively scares the bullies and his classmates. But it also awakens further anger in Young-bin.
Meanwhile, another student named An Soo-ho (Choi Hyun-wook) tries to become Si-eun’s friend. Soo-ho is a hard worker and likes to sleep, but he is feared due to his immense martial arts skills. The catalyst of Weak Hero Class 1 is when Young-bin contracts his local drug dealer to rough up Si-eun for what he did to him and for exposing his Fentanyl use.
Based on a webtoon, Weak Hero Class 1 soon begins a dark and heartbreaking story of bullying and mistreatment. Feeling guilty over what he did to Si-eun, Beom-seok asks Soo-ho for help when Young-bin, the drug dealer, and his crew plan to beat Si-eun. After successfully rescuing Si-eun, the three characters become friends.
The K-drama’s violence intensifies as Beom-seok joins the bullies
It is heartwarming for fans to watch Si-eun finally have friends to rely on. But Weak Hero Class 1 continues down its dark path of violence when the drug dealer’s boss gets involved. Si-eun exposing Young-bin’s drug use put his business in jeopardy. In retaliation, he blackmails Si-eun and his friends to pay him off or get severely beaten. While Beom-seok steals a watch to use as money to pay them off, Si-eun instead hatches a plan.
With the help of Young-yo (Lee Yeon), one of the people in the drug crew, he has evidence again the boss’s illegal business and plans to have the police raid their hideout. But their plan fails, and they flee. They later corner them in an abandoned amusement park and get beaten. But by the end, the police still arrest them all.
While a happy end, the story gets worse. Si-eun, Soo-ho, and Young-yo become friends, and Beom-seok begins to feel left out. While Soo-ho helps Beom-seok fight back against his former bullies, Beom-seok is angered that he stopped him from doing further damage. He snaps one day over feeling abandoned and joins the class bullies. Beom-seok soon goes down a dark path of violence and alcohol.
In Weak Hero Class 1, Si-eun is unsure why Beom-seok has left them and worries. But Beom-seok is too far gone and wants his revenge against Soo-ho. He hates that Soo-ho is better than him. With his newfound friends and connections, he hatches a horrible revenge plan. The Weak Hero Class 1 finale has fans in tears over its outcome.
‘Weak Hero Class 1’ finale has Soo-ho on the brink of death and Si-eun starting over
Beom-seok’s new connections lead him to a ruthless fighter. During a birthday celebration for Soo-ho, Young-yo meets with Beom-seok. He lies to her and tells her he wants to mend his relationship with Soo-ho. Believing him, she arranges a meet-up, but Si-eun reads the messages and goes to the location instead. He is beaten but keeps it from Soo-ho. When Soo-ho learns the truth, he goes after Beom-seok, who, in return, hires the fighter.
Soo-ho fights the fighter in a live event. But Soo-ho is sideswiped, and the bullies and Beom-seok beat him horribly. One bully soon realizes Soo-ho is not breathing. Being the son of a politician, Beom-seok is dragged away by his father’s secretary, and the others flee. They make up a lie about what happened to Soo-ho. But Soo-ho is not dead and is in a coma.
No longer able to handle his pain, Si-eun goes after the fighter and ruthlessly beats him. He goes to school, grabs a fire extinguisher, and beats the other bullies. But seeing Beom-seok as his friend, he is unable to hurt him. In the Weak Hero Class 1 finale, Beom-seok faces no consequences. But his father ensures Si-eun is not accepted into any other school in Seoul. At his new school, Si-eun is again in a ruthless cycle of bullying.
But the K-drama finale has an extra scene that teases a Weak Hero Class 1 Season 2. Fans see the tattooed hand of a man as they hear someone else asking him what they should do. Could this be the big boss of the drug dealer? Si-eun might face danger again.
