‘Welcome to Plathville’: Ethan and Olivia Plath Say Goodbye to Cairo in ‘Shocking’ Season 3 Finale
Ethan and Olivia Plath are leaving Cairo for good. After years of conflict with his conservative and controlling parents, Barry and Kim Plath, the couple has finally decided it’s time to move away from his hometown of Cairo, Georgia, and make a fresh start somewhere else. But before they go, Olivia wants to have one last conversation with her estranged in-laws. Welcome to Plathville fans will see their conversation in what TLC promises is a “shocking” end to the show’s third season.
Olivia Plath says she wants to ‘tie up loose ends’ with her in-laws in the ‘Welcome to Plathville’ Season 3 finale
Olivia’s nonexistent relationship with her husband’s parents, her desire to move away from Cairo, and the resulting conflict with Ethan have been prominent storylines in Welcome to Plathville Season 3. After almost calling it quits earlier in the season, the pair have decided that to save their marriage, they need to move.
In a clip from the 2-hour season finale shared with Us Weekly, Ethan and Olivia drive to his parents’ home. Olivia hasn’t spoken to her in-laws in years, but she wants to have one last conversation to “tie up loose ends.”
However, as they get closer to the Plath family home, Olivia begins to question her decision. “Maybe I shouldn’t do this,” she says. “Why am I doing this again?”
“I have not seen their faces in two years and their faces haunt my dreams,” she adds.
Ethan Plath isn’t sure about Olivia’s plan to talk to his parents
For Olivia, the painful conversation with Kim and Barry is all about putting the past behind her. “I want closure,” she says in a clip shared by People. But when she announces her plan to have one last conversation with Ethan’s parents, he isn’t exactly enthusiastic.
“It seems like anytime something like that happens, it blows up,” he says.
“I know you’re going over there with good intentions,” he tells his wife in a confessional segment, before warning her to be cautious around his parents. “I’m good to leave things as they are. But if you have to do it, if it’s the right thing to do, then do it. Just watch your back.”
Moriah Plath also says goodbye in the next episode of ‘Welcome to Plathville’
Ethan and Olivia aren’t the only members of the Plath family who are moving on. A teaser for the season 3 finale (via Twitter) also shows Ethan’s younger sister Moriah Plath getting ready to leave.
“I’m here to tell my whole family goodbye,” she says. And it looks like her brother Micah is leaving with her. We see footage of the siblings’ empty house and of Moriah closing the door on a U-Haul.
How will Kim and Barry react to their older kids pulling even further away from them? It’s hard to say, but Kim seems to realize her relationship with her children might be beyond repair. “They just want to get away from us,” she says.
The Welcome to Plathville Season 3 finale airs Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
