‘Welcome to Plathville’ storylines ended on a somber note for season 3

In the season 3 finale of TLC’s Welcome to Plathville, the series’ prominent couples hit bumps in their relationships.

Olivia and Ethan Plath moved to Tampa, Florida, to put even more distance between themselves and Ethan’s overbearing parents, Barry and Kim. They attempted to carve out their own life there, and Ethan learned to move away from the ultra-conservative lifestyle forced upon him and his siblings.

Ethan’s sister Moriah Plath also relocated to the sunshine state and ultimately broke up with longtime boyfriend, Max Kallschmidt.

Subsequently, brother Micah took a leap of faith and abruptly moved to LA to further his modeling career.

Some fans believe the show’s storylines are ‘overexaggerated’ for ratings

In a Reddit post, some fans called the series out for storylines they claim are being oversold to fans to hype the new season of the TLC series.

In a season 4 teaser trailer, Kim admits to TLC’s cameras that she is not happy in her marriage. She claims things are “different” now.

“All I know is I’ve been a mom, and I’ve been a wife. Now it’s time to be me,” Kim admits, blindsiding husband Barry with her sudden shift in personality.

Fans subsequently reacted to this seemingly out-of-place storyline in season 4.

“Kim and Barry’s marital issues are being overexaggerated for ratings. I think Kim saw how much attention Ethan and Olivia got from that storyline. So. she helped create one for her and Barry. Kim will do anything for money and fame,” wrote one fan.

“Kim’s changes are all the more fascinating. Whether she’s considering a separation or making the whole thing up for a storyline. This represents a considerable ‘fall from grace,'” penned a second viewer.

“I don’t buy Kim and Barry’s marital issues one bit. At least not the way they are portrayed in the show. Kim says she’s not sure of her future with Barry. That came out of nowhere and didn’t align with her extreme religious views. I would not be surprised if that were a plotline encouraged by TLC,” claimed a third Reddit user.

Kim preached modesty to her children. However, she appears to have changed her beliefs. She has since moved away from a traditional way of thinking as season 4 evolves.

Both Kim and Barry banned their brood from eating sugar, watching television, and having friends outside their family circle.

But, since moving into a new period of self-discovery, Kim appears to have relaxed her rules. She also changed the way she dressed.

Out were Kim’s conservative long-sleeved shirts and loose pants. The TLC star now wears tank tops and short skirts as a new dance studio owner and operator.
