‘Welcome to Plathville’: Which Plath Kids Got Kicked Out of Kim and Barry Plath’s Family Home for Rebelling?
Welcome to Plathville is back on TLC, and the Plaths are more divided than ever. Kim and Barry Plath introduced their family during the first season, as they had a ton of rules for their kids. While it looked like many of their children abided by the strict guidelines, a few started to question everything.
Now, there have been a few Plath kids who have separated themselves from Kim and Barry completely. Here’s who’s left — and been kicked out — of the Plath family home.
Kim and Barry Plath from ‘Welcome to Plathville’ have many strict rules for their kids
Similar to the Duggar family also featured on TLC, the Plaths are very religious. Kim and Barry have incorporated their religious ways into every facet of how they raise their kids. “Throughout [our 22-year marriage,] we have sought God on major life decisions as well as the minor day-to-day choices,” Distractify notes Barry and Kim wrote.
This means the parents of nine kids have ultra-strict rules for their family as well. They aren’t allowed to eat sugar, they can’t dress provocatively, and they can only consume some types of media. When it comes to the internet, all time online must be supervised.
As for why Kim and Barry are so strict, it might have something to do with the death of their 17-month-old son in 2008. Kim noted she “wanted to die” after accidentally running over her son. But her faith helped her through that dark time. “God has been so faithful to our family for getting us through such a horrific event,” she said.
Micah and Moriah Plath were asked to leave the family home
In the season 2 premiere of Welcome to Plathville, fans learned just how divided the Plaths have become. Micah Plath noted he left the family home, as he didn’t agree with his parents’ beliefs.
“Very recently, me and my parents basically came to a mutual agreement for me to move out,” Micah told the cameras. And he then explained that his younger sister, Moriah, moved with him.
As for Moriah, she told the cameras she was “starving for freedom” from her parents’ rules, so she was happy to ditch the family home.
“They tried to control literally everything,” she said. “What we ate, what we wore. Jeans, or any type of tank top, was out of the question. … I’m sure my parents meant well by raising us the way that they did, but I just felt like an outsider in the real world.”
Kim then confirmed to the cameras that Micah and Moriah were asked to leave the house. “We talked it over with Micah and Moriah and agreed that if they couldn’t live with our rules then they needed to move out,” she said.
Ethan Plath no longer speaks to his family
While Micah and Moriah were directly asked to leave, it seems Ethan Plath distanced himself the most from his family. During the first season of the show, Ethan’s wife, Olivia Plath, didn’t get along with Kim and Barry. And Ethan eventually had enough of the strife.
Ethan then explained to the cameras in season 2 that Kim and Barry doesn’t allow him or Olivia to see the younger Plath kids at all. “We needed space as a couple so we decided that meant no contact with my parents,” he explained. And he then noted that the difficulties between himself and his parents almost led to a divorce with Olivia.
Ethan and Olivia are still going strong today, though. And we’re sure they’ll maintain a relationship with Moriah and Micah now that the siblings have moved off the family property. We’ll have to wait and see if any other Plath kids choose to follow Moriah, Micah, and Ethan.
