Kardashian and her sister Kendall Jenner received a reaction they might not have expected at the 2019 Emmy awards. The ceremony is typically supposed to be a respectful and entertaining event where the television industry honors its actors, writers, directors, and crew members. The two sisters took the stage to present the award for Outstanding Reality TV series.

But their speech was met with laughter from the audience, which many took notice of. Williams was especially bothered by the response the sisters received. But the talk show host felt the people laughing at the famous sisters were exposing their own insecurities.

“I think that the people laughing at them are jealous,” Williams once said according to Decider. “You take your big education, going to drama school and all that other kind of stuff — these girls make more money than the whole building.”

Williams also theorized that there was some resentment towards the family for accomplishing so much so quickly.

“All of the sudden, this family comes along called the Kardashians, years ago, and they stole everything in terms of fame — I don’t mean ‘steal’ like bad. I mean like, in a good way. I think the people are just, you’re jealous. So they laughed at them,” she said.”

Williams followed her remarks with words of encouragement for Kardashian and Jenner.

“Look, Kim, Kendall, Kris, and all you all, don’t be mad at them for laughing,” she said. “People are still trying to kick you all’s back in for doing such big things in such a short period of time with the only thing you have — which is love for one another, and the ability to make people follow you on Instagram and whatnot.”

Members of the Kardashian family have also shared they’d like to receive award recognition for their content. Kris Jenner has even tried to manifest an Emmy once before, but Keeping up with The Kardashians still came up short.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame has cemented many actors’ legacies, so much so that even the most hated celebrities haven’t had their stars removed. Williams believed it was time for Kardashian to receive the prestigious honor. Especially given how popular she believed reality TV was nowadays.

“Well I think that whoever makes those rules is really, really out of touch,” Williams once said according to Vibe. “Reality stars are bigger than regular TV stars these days…Everybody in the world knows who Kim Kardashian is…Like it or not, these reality stars are STARS,” she recently dished. “And my thought is they do deserve to be in the running for a Hollywood star. I think people in Hollywood, sometimes stick their nose up to reality TV because they feel that you’re not a real thesbian, you didn’t study at the School of Drama….How many people on TV on talk shows could I be hating on?”

Incidentally, Kardashian herself also mentioned her desire to get a star on the Walk of Fame alongside other icons. Despite Kardashian’s Reality TV success, she’d be ineligible for the accolade. The Hollywood Walk of Fame mainly honors actors for playing characters. But Kardashian dreamed of being the first Reality star to change those standards.

“There was a quote where somebody said that reality stars will never get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” she once said according to Hola!. “I’m so competitive that I think that it would be a huge achievement and a goal that anyone would want. I would love to break that mold.”
