Wendy Williams Once Suggested Beyoncé and Jay-Z Paid Rachel Roy To Be Part of ‘Lemonade’ Drama
Everyone may have been buying the lemonade Beyoncé was serving in 2016, but not Wendy Williams.
Shortly after the release of the Queen Bey’s highly anticipated album, Lemonade, Williams sounded off on the whole “Becky with the good hair” drama by suggesting Bey and Jay used Rachel Roy as a marketing ploy to sell more records.
Wendy Williams’ tendency to tell it like it is has come at a cost
Williams is known for sharing her unfiltered opinions about specific topics on her popular television show, The Wendy Williams Show.
During her “Hot Topic” segment, the famed daytime television host doesn’t hold anything back as she shares whatever is on her mind, even if it’s controversial.
Early this month, Williams claimed influencer Blac Chyna was homeless, which prompted a swift clap back from the model herself, who responded to the talk show host’s comment on her Instagram Story.
In February 2020, she seemingly mocked Drew Carrey’s ex-fiancée’s tragic death, which she was heavily criticized for.
Though Williams often gets called out for her controversial comments surrounding celebrities, that hasn’t stopped her from telling it like it is on her show.
But her ongoing statements about one celebrity, in particular, has come at a major cost as she’s received plenty of criticism and detractors over the years.
Wendy Williams has made some controversial comments about Beyoncé in the past
Williams is no stranger to making shocking remarks about singer Beyoncé.
One of the first controversial statements she made about Bey occurred in 2012 when she called out one of the singer’s mannerisms on The Wendy Williams Show.
While sitting in front of a live studio audience in her infamous purple chair, the talk show host discussed the Grammy winner’s upcoming HBO documentary Life Is But a Dream.
Williams shared that she was planning on tuning in but said she would have to use closed captioning while watching the film to clearly understand the hitmaker.
“I am a Beyoncé fan. I’m gonna watch her upcoming documentary because fortunately one of the TVs in our kitchen has closed captioning, so I’ll be able to understand what she says,” she said. “You know Beyoncé can’t talk. She sounds like she has a fifth-grade education.”
The remark was instantly met with audible boos and a plethora of comments online, calling out the talk show host for judging the tone of Beyoncé’s voice.
Wendy Williams claims Beyoncé and Jay-Z used Rachel Roy as a marketing ploy for ‘Lemonade’
Another instance of Williams making shocking statements about Beyoncé occurred in 2016 when she unwisely involved herself in the singer’s Lemonade drama.
At the time, Beyoncé had just released the now-infamous album and had many people speculating that Jay-Z had cheated on her with fashion designer Rachel Roy due to her music referencing marriage infidelity.
However, Williams called the whole thing into question during a taping of her show by insinuating that the power couple had paid off Roy to participate in the drama in order to help them sell more records.
“Rachel Roy, first of all, you’re not this fighting girl unless you’re on Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s payroll, and they paid you to mix it up to add, I guess, sales for ‘Lemonade,'” she said.
But that wasn’t the only critique the talk show host had for the Queen Bey.
She also slammed the singer for releasing Lemonade just days after Prince’s sudden death.
“Quite frankly, I wish Beyoncé had held off on the album after Prince,” Williams continued. “Until this whole weekend kind of blew over.”
Talk about drama!
