A surprise call into The Breakfast Club by Wendy Williams exposed new details about her health and wellbeing. The former Wendy Williams Show host claims she is in “prison,” while her niece alleges her aunt faces “neglect” and calls for fans to “make noise” for Williams’ “dignity” and “freedom.”

Wendy Williams claims she’s ‘trapped’

Wendy Williams called into The Breakfast Club radio show to discuss her conservatorship with Loren LoRosa, DJ Envy, and Charlamagne Tha God. Williams maintains she is “trapped.”

Williams explains she is effectively in “prison.” She adds, “I am not cognitively impaired. But I feel like I am in prison. I’m in this place where the people are in their 90s their 80s and their 70s. There’s something wrong with these people here on this floor,” she clarifies.

Her statement refuted a claim made by Williams’guardian, Sabrina Morrissey. She claims the former talk show host and radio personality has aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.

Williams’ niece, Alex Finnie, spoke about her beloved aunt’s ongoing legal situation on The Breakfast Club. She claims Williams’ guardian has made it “difficult” for Wendy to live a “healthy, independent life.”

In addition, Finne added, “I’m not asking for a whole lot. All I’m saying is just treat the woman with dignity. And give her the freedoms that she deserves.” She also wants Williams’ supporters to “make noise” about her aunt’s conservatorship.

Wendy Williams’ temporary guardianship began in 2022

Wendy Williams’ temporary guardianship began in 2022. Her bank, Wells Fargo, subsequently claimed in a New York court that she was an “incapacitated person” and the “victim of undue influence and financial exploitation,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Wells Fargo requested Williams’ conservatorship because they believed she was experiencing cognitive issues that prevented her from properly managing her finances.

The limited series Where is Wendy Williams? detailed the television and radio personality’s health and addressed the conservatorship. However, Morrissey is not identified as Williams’ guardian in the Lifetime special, which aired in February 2024.

A Go-Fund-Me is in place to collect enough funding to move Wendy Williams from her current New York facility to be closer to her family in Miami, Florida. Its goal is to raise $50,000.

“Her current situation is not only unfair but also deeply isolating. The guardian assigned to her has severed her connections with friends and family, leaving her without the support network she so desperately needs. This isolation in New York has made it increasingly difficult for her to maintain her strength and resilience.” the Go-Fund-Me page reads.

It continues, “Unfortunately, they have exhausted their financial resources in their fight against this unjust guardianship and are in dire need of assistance to secure legal representation. Legal services can be prohibitively expensive, and without our support, they may struggle to navigate the complexities of the situation.”
