‘Westworld’ Season 3 Sparks New Theory That the Real World Is a Simulation
The HBO show is officially back and it already left fans with many questions. One big question is what is a simulation? Multiple hosts seem to be in the real world but is it true? Westworld fans already are talking about a new theory after watching a specific scene in the premiere.
It’s been teased humans will also be in loops
Aaron Paul is playing Caleb in this new season. He teased what the real world is like and it’s not very different from Delos.
“It’s how a lot of people live their lives,” Paul told TV Insider. “They wake up, go to work and do their job in order to survive. Caleb is always trying to break out of this routine. But he just can’t — and there may be a very specific reason for that. The hosts will slowly realize how humans are also stuck in these endless loops.”
He then talked about Dolores’ perspective on the world. “She sees that outside of the walls of Westworld, it’s not too different from inside,” the actor said.
‘Westworld’ premiere had a human talk about living in a simulation
The episode “Parce Domine” showed what Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) has been up to in the real world. She spends time with Liam Dempsey (John Gallagher Jr.) in London. That’s because he is part of a company called Incite, which is behind the world’s biggest technical achievements and she wrongfully thought he controlled a system called Rehoboam.
Liam and Dolores are at a party when a man talks about his interesting theory. He said, “That none of this is real. I’m serious. We’re living in a simulation. The joke’s on us though. It’s like we’re the f*ck puppets at Delos. Least they had dignity to revolt and kill everyone.”
He later added, “Just thinking about this for a second. How f*cking ironic would it be if they had put a simulation within a simulation? That’s a massive f*ck you.”
Dolores responded with, “I think that people believe the things that help them. Course it could just be this. Nucleus accumbens, it’s a small part of your brain, about an inch and a half long. It’s the part of you that evolved to believe in God.”
She later teases in the episodes that the gods are coming. This could be in reference to more hosts.
Fans think it’s possible the human world is a simulation
Fans certainly picked up on this speech. We have learned in the past that anything can be possible with Westworld. Could the real world actually be a simulation too? Other fans don’t seem to be happy about the possibility of this or just confused by it.
The preview for next week also shows Maeve (Thandie Newton) in what looks like a simulation. She then meets a man who tells her that Dolores has a head start and is in control of five other hosts. We know from the series preview that he will give Maeve the mission to stop Dolores.
One fan had another theory based on this. The person tweeted, “TV Talk: #Westworld (PARCE DOMINE) My theory is, what we’ve watched was a video simulation. The closing part with Maeve was set in the park…and was ‘real’. Everything else was video game logic. Deloris [sic] couldn’t have known the future. And the dress change was a 100% clue.”
Many fans did pick up on how Dolores’ short black dress changed into a gold evening gown. We will have to wait to see if this theory is right or wrong.
