What ‘Blue Bloods’ Fans Don’t like About Jamie and Eddie’s Scenes
Fans of Blue Bloods waited a long time to see Jamie (Will Estes) and Eddie (Vanessa Ray) fall in love. It finally happened but fans are noticing something missing from their scenes in Season 9 and aren’t happy about it. What is it? Here is everything you need to know.
Jamie and Eddie started out as partners before falling in love
Jamie and Eddie would ride together as police officers. They naturally became friends and slowly became something more. Fans noticed their chemistry pretty quickly, but it took the characters much longer to realize how they felt about each other.
Since they started out as partners their relationship has continued to be built on that. Jamie is now Eddie’s sergeant, but they still turn to each other when they’re in a bind at work. The actors actually didn’t want their relationship to change too much because they are engaged.
Will Estes reportedly didn’t want Jamie and Eddie’s relationship to change too much
Fans might have been looking forward to more romantic scenes between the characters, but Estes wanted to avoid that.
“Will was cautious, at first, and rightly so, because he had the fear that, frankly, he had every right to have: ‘Are we going to be playing scenes where we’re holding hands, gazing into each other across a checkered tablecloth in a dimly lit restaurant?'” revealed Blue Bloods showrunner Kevin Wade to Entertainment Weekly.
“I assured him we had no interest in writing those stories, and I know he has no interest in playing them,” continued Wade. “We talked a lot about the dynamic that was there — the chemistry that was there in front of us — and having to push it further.”
Vanessa Ray also talked about what it was like to film their characters kissing. How she felt about it might be more reason why we don’t get many romantic scenes on the show.
“Kissing Will Estes, he’s the dreamiest dreamboat, so that’s not very hard, but it is funny because we’re such good friends,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “When I first read it, it was like, ‘Oh no, I have to kiss my brother, so weird,’ because we’re so close. We were like, ‘Oh, ok, we have to figure this out.’”
Fans don’t like that Jamie and Eddie haven’t been romantic
Some things have changed since Jamie and Eddie got engaged. Eddie is seen at family dinner and the couple has more intimate talks.
However, one thing that hasn’t really changed is how they show their affection. The couple isn’t really seen kissing, holding hands, or even sitting that close to each other. This was very noticeable to fans in the episode, “Strange Bedfellows.”
There was one scene of Jamie and Eddie talking about how they feel about having children. They’re sitting pretty far away from each other and fans were pretty frustrated by it.
The good news is that the next episode will be the couple’s wedding, which will have to include a kiss. The bad news is it’s unlikely fans will get more than that because the stories the people behind the show want to tell.
