What Demi Lovato Fans Think She’ll Perform at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards
Singer Demi Lovato has spent months of 2020 in the spotlight due to her engagement (and subsequent breakup) with actor Max Ehrich. However, that hasn’t slowed her down in terms of her career. Ahead of her 2020 Billboard Music Awards performance, learn what some of her fans think she’ll sing on the big night.
Demi Lovato kicked off 2020 with a live performance
After a hiatus from music, Lovato returned to the stage in January 2020. She sang a previously unheard song, “Anyone,” that she wrote before her 2018 overdose. The performance was met with acclaim across the industry — even Lovato’s ex-friend, Selena Gomez, offered her praise.
Lovato followed this up with another live event. On February 2, 2020, she sang the national anthem at Super Bowl LIV. This was a lifelong dream of Lovato’s, which she revealed in a decade-old tweet.
Since then, she’s released a few tracks
Unfortunately, Lovato didn’t pick a great time to relaunch her music career. In March 2020, events across the U.S. (and the globe) were canceled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. But Lovato was still able to drop a few new releases, beginning with her single “I Love Me.”
The artist followed this up with a few collaborations, including “I’m Ready” with Sam Smith and a remix of JoJo’s song “Lonely Hearts.” But Lovato refrained from taking part in large-scale performances like the MTV Video Music Awards, which took place in New York City.
Lovato announced her BBMAs performance
Not long after the VMAs, Lovato agreed to take part in a show closer to her Los Angeles home. “YOU GUYS!! I’m performing at the @BBMAs,” she wrote. The award show’s Twitter account also tweeted about her inclusion, writing, “With her world premiere performance of new music, @ddlovato is returning to the #BBMAs!”
Though she’s not nominated this year, Lovato is no stranger to the BBMAs. Her most-nominated year was 2018 when she performed alongside Christina Aguilera. Before that, she sang at the event in 2016, where she was up for Top Social Media Artist.
Fans think she’ll debut a new song
Lovato’s fans (who call themselves Lovatics) noticed the BBMAs account’s word choice in its tweet, specifically the “world premiere performance of new music” part. This could mean her post-breakup anthem, “Still Have Me.” But one fan account believes it will be an unheard song.
“According to [an] insider, the new song that Demi Lovato will perform at #BBMAs is called “Commander in Chief” and was written by Demi, Finneas O’Connell, Julia Michaels, Eren Cannata & Justin Tranter,” wrote the account. “The song will be released on October 14.”
Lovato is also taking part in a festival
Lovato isn’t just performing at the BBMAs. As events tentatively surface, she’s taken new opportunities, such as the Save Our Stages benefit concert. And the singer made it clear she’ll be singing her latest 2020 collaboration, “OK Not to Be OK.”
“Performing with @marshmellomusic for @youtubemusic & @nivassoc’s #SOSFEST that will directly benefit the NIVA Emergency Relief Fund,” Lovato tweeted of the days-long event, airing virtually from October 16-18, 2020.
