What Do People Think About Robert Pattinson Being Cast As The New Batman?
It has been confirmed that Robert Pattinson has signed on to be the next Batman.
Rumors surrounding Pattinson playing the iconic superhero began earlier last month and now we know he is coming back to the big screen starring in the next DC Comics franchise.
Since the announcement, people have been taking to social media to share their thoughts on this news.
Though there are some people who are excited to see Robert Pattinson on the big screen again, more people are not too thrilled he is the new Batman.
People do not want Robert playing the beloved superhero
After Ben Affleck’s Batman performance was poorly received by critics and fans, DC Comics fans have tried doing everything their power get Warner Bros to cast a suitable actor.
Since Robert Pattinson most famous role as Edward in the Twilight series was not embraced by too many people, fans were not happy to learn that he would be the new Batman.
Back in May, DC Comics fans even went as far as to create a Change.org campaign to petition Pattinson playing Batman.
The campaign was titled “Warner Brothers, don’t do it! Don’t cast Robert Pattinson as Batman,” and has received more than 6,000 signatures.
The description pointed out that Warner Bros is making a mistake casting Pattinson to play the character and even brought up how bad Ben Affleck’s performance as Batman in 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League was received.
“Don’t make the Batfleck mistake again. Don’t do it,” the campaign states. “For the love of all that is holy, stop trashing the DC Universe.”
Not only are people siding with the Change.org petition, but there are also people sharing their thoughts about Robert Pattinson playing Batman on Twitter.
The casting has received mix reviews so far
Shortly after Variety and Deadline confirmed that Robert Pattinson had officially been cast as the title character in the upcoming movie The Batman, fans took to Twitter to share how they felt about the news.
“Ew……what are they thinking? No thank you. Go sparkle somewhere else,” one Twitter user wrote. Another added, “Lmfao! While great in Twilight, he isn’t a good ‘Batman’ imo.”
Other users explained that while they like Pattinson as an actor, they do not think that he’ll make a good Batman.
“He’s a fantastic actor, but not for Batman,” one user wrote.
Though a majority of tweets have been negative, there have been a few positive ones.
There are a few people out there who can’t wait to see Robert Pattinson take on this role and believe that he deserves a chance.
One person’s tweet read, “If people actually read the Twilight novels rather than regurgitating decade-old memes verbatim, they’d realise Pattinson did the best he could w/ the material he had in Twilight. The dude is a good actor. If you could sit through Affleck you can give Pattinson a shot.”
While someone else tweeted, “I won’t believe that Robert Pattinson makes a good Batman until I actually see it. I just haven’t seen any of his acting since twilight (I’m aware he’s been in other movies I just never saw them) so we’ll see how this goes..”
Robert Pattinson is set to play Batman in all three of The Batman films beginning in 2021.
Pattinson will be the fifth actor to play the iconic superhero.
Other actors who have played Batman in the past include Christian Bale, Michael Keaton, George Clooney, and Val Kilmer.
