A member of the Duggar family just updated his resume. Jill Duggar’s husband Derick Dillard has a new gig, according to his LinkedIn profile, and it’s one that’s right in line with his career goals.

As followers of the couple know, Derick is currently in law school, studying for his J.D. at the University of Arkansas. But the former Counting On star has also landed a job with the Arkansas attorney general.

While many members of the extended Duggar family opt not to pursue higher education, Derick is the exception. The 30-year-old has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Oklahoma State University. He also studied at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. And now, he’s on his way to becoming a lawyer.

Derick started classes at the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville last fall. And based on his online profile on the professional networking site LinkedIn, he’s pretty serious about his career. Starting in May, he spent two months as a public service fellow with the federal public defender’s office in Fayetteville.

According to the University of Arkansas School of Law website, seven promising law students interested in public service careers receive the paid fellowship each year, which “offers meaningful employment opportunities and provides legal services to nonprofit, non-governmental and government entities that cannot otherwise afford summer interns.” Fellows receive $5,000 for 10 weeks of full-time work.

After finishing his time with the public defender’s office, Derick moved on to another career-boosting job.

In July, he began working as a law clerk for the Arkansas attorney general in Little Rock. As part of the job he “perform[s] various legal research & writing projects for the criminal department,” per his LinkedIn.

“The Attorney General’s office law clerk program gives law students the opportunity to work with some of the state’s top attorneys,” Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge has said in the past. “The clerks perform essential research and writing projects which provides invaluable experience in a service-driven learning environment.”

Derick seems interested in a career in public interest law

Based on his work this summer, Derick appears to be interested in eventually finding a job in public interest law. That could mean a lot of things, from working as a public defender to a job with a government agency to becoming a lawyer for a non-profit or NGO.

Jill offered a bit more insight into Derick’s career goals on her family’s blog. In response to a question from a reader, she explained that “He’s hoping to practice some kind of public interest law (voice for the voiceless).” That’s a bit vague, but anti-abortion activists often describe themselves as a “voice for the voiceless,” so it’s possible that Derick is interested in working in that area of law, especially since he’s made no secret of his pro-life views
