K-pop group NCT released their second studio album, NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1, on Oct. 12. The album is a milestone for the group. It marked the debut of two new members and set records for NCT and SM Entertainment. So what do fans think of NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1?
Who are the members of NCT
NCT first debuted in 2016 with SM Entertainment. As part of the band’s concept, the group has the possibility of unlimited members, and all of the NCT members perform under different sub-units. While NCT only started with a few members, the K-pop group now has 23 active members and four different sub-units.
NCT U was the first NCT sub-unit, and NCT U songs will feature whoever fits the concept of a song the best. NCT 127 is a fixed sub-unit with nine active members: Taeil, Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, Mark, and Haechan.
Mark and Haechan are also members of NCT Dream with Renjun, Jeno, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung. Winwin was originally in NCT 127, but he now performs in WayV, NCT’s fourth sub-unit, along with Kun, Ten, Lucas, Xiaojun, Hendery, and Yangyang. NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1 marks Shotaro and Sungchan’s debut, and following the album they will be part of a new NCT sub-unit.
What fans think about ‘NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1’
Leading up to the release of NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1, anticipation was high. The album features 13 tracks: “Make A Wish (Birthday Song),” “Misfit,” “Volcano,” “백열등 (Light Bulb),” “Dancing In The Rain,” “Interlude: Past to Present,” “무대로 (Déjà Vu; 舞代路),” “月之迷 (Nectar),” “Music, Dance,” “피아노 (Faded In My Last Song),” “From Home,” “From Home (Korean Ver.),” and “Make A Wish (Birthday Song) (English Ver.).”
The album features songs by NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, and WayV. After the album was released, fans wrote about their opinions on social media. Based on what fans wrote, it seems that NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1 lived up to the hype.
“… the album is simply amazing – with many different colors but tied together nicely. my favorite song is misfit, i can see this becoming one of my top tracks of 2020. i adored dancing in the rain, nectar, déjà vu and faded in my last song as well. there’s no skips for me,” one Reddit user wrote.
“this album will be on repeat from top to bottom I’ll tell you that! I was excited by the promo but honestly they’ve exceeded my expectations…,” wrote another Reddit user.
On Reddit, an NCT fan wrote, “… Overall, the songs are really cohesive. They fit the NCT sounds with their signature ‘noise music’ but also their soul ballads and hype rap. I can’t wait for part 2!”
‘NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1’ broke a pre-sale record
NCT have not only grown in members over the past few years. Since debuting in 2016, the band’s fandom size, worldwide recognition, album sales, and music video views have steadily grown. As of Oct. 11, NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1 broke NCT’s stock pre-order record with 1.12 million copies in stock pre-orders.
“Make A Wish (Birthday Song)” is the album’s title track, and NCT released a music video for the song the same day as the album. Within its first 24 hours, the song’s music video achieved over 25.3 million views.
