My 600-lb Life premiered in 2012 on TLC and has gained a massive following throughout the years. Fans love seeing the individuals brought on the show transform into ideal weights as they enroll in a yearlong fitness routine to manage their obesity.

Although the show has been a source of entertainment and light-heartedness, some of its stars haven’t had the best luck in weight management, which has led to complications and even death. The latest My 600-lb Life star to die was Gina Krasley. But what happened to Krasley?

Who was Krasley?

Fans of My 600-Lb Life first met Krasley in 2020 when she was 28 and weighed 606.7 pounds. At the time, she lived in New Jersey with her wife, sister, mother, dog, and sister’s fiancé. When she appeared on the show, Krasley shared that she was guilty about the pressure her weight was putting on her wife, Beth and their marriage.

Krasley didn’t have the best childhood as she and her sister were forced to live with their abusive father even after their parents divorced. Krasley turned her attention to food as a coping mechanism for the abuse, depression, and anxiety. She said, “what made me forget the pain was eating. I was trying to just constantly eat whenever I could.

The reality star revealed that by the time she graduated high school, she weighed 450 pounds and hit the 500-pound mark at 19. When she appeared on the show, Krasley struggled to shed the mandated 50 pounds before surgery.

Dr. Now requires his patients to take the first step of weight loss on their own before he gives them weight loss surgery. He gave Krasley several chances to shed weight on her own and approved her surgery last minute before taking it back after learning that Krasley had gained 13 pounds.

What happened to Krasley?

In March 2021, Krasley shared with her fans through her YouTube channel that she had dropped 300 pounds. She said, “I did this for me and only me, and I did this on my own. Sadly, Krasley updated her followers a month later, saying that she went to the hospital after experiencing mobility issues, an eating disorder, and possible infection.

According to People, Krasley died on August 1, 2021, at the young age of 30. The hospital didn’t give any official report on Krasley’s cause of death, but her obituary stated that she was “surrounded by her loving family” when she died. Krasley left behind her wife, sister, and mother.

TLC issued a statement following Krasley’s death expressing their condolences saying, “TLC was deeply saddened by the loss of Gina Krasley who shared her weight loss journey on My 600-lb Life. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this difficult time.”
