Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are a Hollywood power couple. The pair met when Wilson appeared in an episode of Bosum Buddies, which Hanks starred in, back in the mid-’80s. Before Wilson, Hanks wed his college sweetheart Samantha Lewes, who was an actress as well. They tied the knot in 1978 and had two children, Colin and Elizabeth. Their marriage though was far from perfect.
“I was looking for something I had not found as a kid,” the Forrest Gump star told The Express in 2013. “And a broken marriage meant I was sentencing my own kids to the sort of feelings I had at their age. I was just too young and insecure for marriage. I was 23 and my son Colin was already 2 when I married for the first time. I was not really ready to take on those responsibilities.”
Hanks and Lewes’ divorce was finalized in 1987. He and Wilson said “I do” the following year and they have children, Chester “Chet” and Truman.
In 2002, Lewes died after a battle with bone cancer.

Sons give update on how Hanks and Wilson are doing
On March 11, the two-time Academy Award winner took to social media to announce that he and Wilson had both tested positive for COVID-19.
“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia,” Hanks wrote. “We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”
He added, “What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!”
The next day, their son, Chet, confirmed the news via Instagram. He said he spoke to them over the phone and they “aren’t too worried” but are taking all the “necessary health precautions.” He also thanked everyone for the well wishes.
Hanks’ oldest son, Colin, posted on Twitter that he appreciates all the “outpouring of support” as well and said Hanks and Wilson are receiving “excellent care in Australia.”
An update out of Queensland stated that the U.S. couple is in stable condition.
