What To Expect In ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ Part 3, According To The Showrunner
Reboots and revivals are great for nostalgia. But with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, they took a concept and flipped it on its head. Instead of the quirky, cool Sabrina Spellman of the ‘90s, this new Sabrina is also a strong, powerful witch, with a major, dark makeover. Oh, and a huge helping of Hell, too. With Satanic rituals and dark storylines, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is in its own ballpark. So with Part 3 coming to Netflix on Jan. 24, what can you expect? Spoilers for Part 1 and 2 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina ahead.
Hell yes, Sabrina and friends are going to Hell
The show left off in April with a lot of major changes. Sabrina found out that her father was Satan, aka Lucifer Morningstar. She also found out that he wants her to be Queen of Hell with him as King, which is a bit odd, but he is the Dark Lord. But that all didn’t matter anyway because Sabrina trapped him in her boyfriend Nick Scratch’s body. With the help of her mortal friends, Hell was contained and so was Satan. But Sabrina plans to break her boyfriend free somehow, and Ambrose and Prudence are off to hunt down Father Blackwood and save the twins.
There’s obviously a lot going on, but the major question is: Are they actually going to Hell? As the trailer shows, yes they are. And in April, showrunner and creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared some tiny details. “I think it’s safe to say that we are going to Hell, yes,” he said to TheWrap. “We’re going to Hell. It’s very fun. It’s very fun. It’s dangerous, but it’s really fun.”
Team Sabrina and Harvey? Or Team Sabrina and Nick?
And there are many swirling questions about the status of Sabrina’s relationship with Nick. While she does call him her boyfriend in the end and is determined to bring him back, they did have a rough patch right before he sacrificed himself. It turns out that the Dark Lord asked Nick to get closer to Sabrina in the first place, though he swears all his feelings weren’t a lie.
So, is there an opening for Harvey? “It’s funny, I love both those guys,” Aguirre-Sacasa told TheWrap. “I love Gavin and I love Ross. I think probably, I ship both couples. I have a soft spot for Harvey because he’s Sabrina’s longtime boyfriend in the comic books, but I cannot deny that Sabrina and Nick are a great, potent match. So yes, there is reason to hope for Harvey and Sabrina shippers. But Sabrina and Nick are pretty undeniable.”
Where does Ambrose stand after everything?
Again, Ambrose and Prudence have some witch-hunting to do. “I think [showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa] has kind of kept that under wraps, the overreaching arc,” actor Chance Perdomo told TheWrap, referring to his character’s story. “But he’s told us bits about our characters, and I can say Ambrose is seeking power, he’s learned new power — but not necessarily from the mindset or perspective that he had in the past that got him into trouble.”
But it’s not just the power to have power. Perdomo said Ambrose’s top priorities are to save and protect his family. “[Ambrose] feels, ‘I need to be able to come into my own as my own man’ — because he’s always been seeking father figures, like Blackwood, who have let him down — ‘and I need to be able to protect what’s close to my heart,’” he said. “So he kinda goes off and comes back different — shall we say.”
Is a ‘Riverdale’ crossover in the works?
Lastly, with a show in the popular universe as fan-favorite Riverdale, will there ever be a crossover? “Listen, I’m so open for it and it feels like we have conversation about it all the time,” Aguirre-Sacasa said. “I still would love for it to happen.”
Aguirre-Sacasa is the showrunner and executive producer for both hit shows, so it’s a fair question to ask. However, he does say that it’s more likely that Riverdale would crossover with Katy Keene since they’re on the same channel and share characters. But keep your eyes out for Easter eggs here and there. We’ve seen them in the past and could see more in the future.
