Another ‘When Calls the Heart’ Actor Is Rumored to Be Joining the ‘Riverdale’ Cast
Could another When Calls the Heart actor be joining the Riverdale cast? Martin Cummins, who plays Henry Gowen on the Hallmark Channel series, also appears on CW teen drama as Sheriff Tom Keller. Now, there are rumors that Chris McNally, who plays Elizabeth’s love interest Lucas Bouchard on When Calls the Heart, might also soon also be part of the Riverdale family.
Chris McNally rumored to be joining ‘Riverdale’ cast
In early June, Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared a photo on Instagram celebrating the end of production on season 5.
“Aaaand that’s a wrap on Season Five of #Riverdale. So grateful to everyone who worked on this crazy show this crazy year, under crazier-than-usual circumstances,” he wrote.
“Really excited about our next batch of episodes,” he added. “They’re some of the best we’ve done.”
The photo shows more than a dozen people standing in or in front of the Pussycats’ tour bus. Fansided’s Netflix Life reported that the photo appeared to include McNally. The image thus “subtly revealed” that he’d be playing a “mystery role” in the upcoming episodes, perhaps as the band’s new manager or the Alan Mayberry character, Josie’s love interest in the comics. Aguirre-Sacasa had previously revealed in an earlier Instagram post that the band would be part of the upcoming batch of episodes.
However, McNally’s casting has not been confirmed. When asked about whether the Canadian actor was joining the show, a representative for the CW told Showbiz Cheat Sheet there was no casting news to share at this time.
In addition to When Calls the Heart, McNally has appeared in Altered Carbon, the Lifetime adaptation of the V.C. Andrews’ novel Heaven, and multiple Hallmark Channel movies.
Martin Cummins has appeared on ‘Riverdale’ since season 1
If McNally does join the Riverdale cast, he’ll be the second When Calls the Heart actor to appear in the series. Cummins has played the father of Kevin Keller (Casey Cott) since the show’s first season. But it was during a memorable scene during a season 2 episode when he really made an impression on fans. While she was snooping around the Keller house, Veronica (Camila Mendes) happened upon a shirtless Sheriff Keller working out, prompting fans of the show to declare him one of the show’s “hot dads.”
In a 2019 interview with From the Desk of Kurt Manwaring, Cummins talked about his workout regimen, explaining that it was all about finding a healthy way to channel any frustration he felt in a positive direction.
“I don’t know about you, but the going-to-the-gym thing is so that I don’t punch someone out in a supermarket line. You know what I mean? It just calms me down,” he said. “I’ve always gone to the gym. It calms you down. It’s quiet.”
Riverdale returns Wednesday, August 11 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
