Mamie Laverock of ‘When Calls the Heart’ hospitalized after a ‘medical emergency’
Laverock was initially admitted to a hospital in Winnipeg after experiencing a medical emergency on May 11. She was later transferred to a hospital in Vancouver. At the time, her recovery was “unclear,” her parents wrote, but she was “alive and showing signs of improvement.”
Days later, Nicole and Rob shared a devastating update on their daughter’s condition.
“We are deeply saddened to report that on May 26th, Mamie, who has been in intensive treatment for the past two weeks, was escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway from which she fell five stories,” they wrote.
“We are all devastated, in shock, at this intensely difficult time,” they added.
Several When Calls the Heart cast members spoke about the tragedy on social media.
Erin Krakow, who plays Elizabeth Thornton, shared a link to the family’s GoFundMe on her Instagram and urged her followers to donate if they were able.
Johannah Newmarch, who plays the mother of Lavelock’s character on When Calls the Heart, also reacted to the “tragic and horrible” situation involving her young co-star.
“I love this wonderful family so much, and my heart is broken,” she wrote on Instagram. “Such a devastating time for them and all who care deeply for sweet Mamie. Please help if you can. They need all the support they can get to make it through this nightmare. Thank you.”
Mamie Laverock plays Rosaleen Sullivan on ‘When Calls the Heart’
Laverock plays Rosaleen Sullivan on When Calls the Heart. She appeared in the first two seasons of the Hallmark Channel drama. At some point, her character left Hope Valley, but she returned in season 10 to visit her mother, Molly Sullivan (Newmarch).
Rosaleen had been working as a nanny for a family in Cape Fullerton and trying to save money for nursing school. During her visit, Rosaleen encountered Henry Gowen (Martin Cummins), which forced her to come to terms with her anger over his role in the mining accident that killed her father. Gowen wanted to help Rosaleen and set up an anonymous scholarship which she won. When she learned Gowen was behind the scholarship, she rejected the money. But she later realized Gowen had changed. She forgave him and accepted the scholarship.
In addition to When Calls the Heart, Laverock has also appeared in Lifetime’s Spotlight on Christmas, Hallmark Channel’s Wedding of Dreams, the 2012 movie This Means War, and episodes of A Series of Unfortunate Events and Psych.
