‘When Calls the Heart’: Hyland Goodrich Plays Little Jack on Hallmark Series

A new cast member has stolen the hearts’ of When Calls the Heart fans, and he’s not even in kindergarten. Three-year-old Hyland Goodrich stepped into the role of little Jack in season 9 of the Hallmark Channel series.
Lincoln and Gunnar Taylor previously played the role of Baby Jack on ‘When Calls the Heart’
Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) gave birth to her son in When Calls the Heart’s 2018 holiday special, The Greatest Christmas Blessing. She named him Jack in honor of his late father, who’d died in a training accident in the show’s fifth season.
Baby Jack was played by twins Lincoln and Gunnar Taylor in When Calls the Heart Seasons 6-8. Despite their young age, the boys more than held their own on set, Krakow told Entertainment Tonight in a 2019 interview.
“One of the things I love about working with these boys is that they are very focused and involved in the scene, so oftentimes, they’ll be looking at the other characters that I’m looking at during the scene, and they stay really involved. They’re making expressions similar to the ones that I’m making,” the Juilliard-trained actor said.

After playing baby Jack for three seasons, the Taylor twins stepped away from the role.
“[The] Taylor twins have taken the year off of filming and even though we miss our WCTH family, we will never forget the three years we spent on set,” the twins said in a message shared by the When Calls the Heart Instagram account. “This is not goodbye – it’s see you later.”
“We will miss Gunnar and Lincoln Taylor, who previously played Little Jack,” Krakow told Entertainment Tonight. “But we will cherish all the memories we shared and they will always be very special members of our WCTH family!”

After the Taylor twins’ exit, the part of baby Jack on When Calls the Heart was recast with a different pint-sized actor: Hyland Goodrich. He made his TV debut in the season 9 premiere, and has charmed audiences in every episode since. He’s also won over his co-stars.
“Hyland has brought so much joy and laughter to Hope Valley,” Krakow said. “He’s a natural in front of the camera and his improvisations had us all grinning! We can’t wait for the Hearties to fall in love with Hyland’s performance, as we have.”
