‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 11: Elizabeth and Nathan Team Up to Help Tom Thornton in May 26 Episode
Is Tom Thornton in over his head? Jack Thornton’s younger brother (played by Max Lloyd-Jones) made an unexpected visit to Hope Valley in the May 19 episode of When Calls the Heart. The formerly wayward young man had an exciting proposition for Hope Valley’s choir. But his offer of fame and fortune proved too good to be true, as he discovered in the closing moments of “Facing the Music.”
In the May 26 installment of the Hallmark Channel drama, Tom has to deal with the fallout of the scheme he inadvertently got caught up in. Fortunately, he has two people on his side to help him sort out the mess: Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) and Nathan (Kevin McGarry).
Tom Thornton turns into an accidental con man on ‘When Calls the Heart’
When Calls the Heart viewers first met Mountie Jack Thornton’s brother back in season 2, when he got involved with Elizabeth’s sister Julie Thatcher. The youthful romance ended with the couple getting involved in a car crash and Tom taking a job in Cape Fullerton. He vowed to live his life on the straight and narrow going forward. Tom attended Elizabeth and Jack’s wedding in season 5, but he hasn’t been seen in Hope Valley since then.
Naturally, Tom’s return to Hope Valley in honor of his late brother Jack’s birthday is a welcome surprise for Elizabeth, especially because it means he gets to meet his nephew, little Jack, for the first time. It’s also an exciting development for Hope Valley’s choice. Tom has a new job as a sheet music salesman. Part of his work also involves scouting choirs for a festival in Salt Lake City. He arranges a last-minute audition for Hope Valley’s singers. They secure a spot at the festival, but there’s one catch. They’ll need to come up with the $65 entry fee – a hefty sum in 1920.
Ned and Florence Yost agree to help cover the fees, but Mountie Nathan is immediately suspicious of the scheme. He and Elizabeth bring their concerns to Tom, who assures them that his boss Mr. Sweeney is a “big impresario” and the festival is totally legit. He’s hurt that Elizabeth still sees him as the young screw-up he was years earlier.
Unfortunately, Nathan and Elizabeth’s fears that the festival is might be a scam are well-founded. After Ned wires the money to Mr. Sweeney, Tom tries to reach his boss on the phone. But Mr. Sweeney has vanished. Tom, realizing he’s become an unwitting con man, checks out of the hotel in disgrace, and it seems that he’s about to flee town. But he decides not to board the train. Elizabeth and Nathan find him in the waiting room. They agree to help Tom sort out the mess with all the choirs he’s helped Mr. Sweeney scam.
Can a festival help get Tom Thornton out of a jam?
Nathan and Elizabeth want to help Tom put things right and get the choir’s money back. With Mr. Sweeney MIA, they have to get creative. The solution? A music festival called “The Voices of the Valley.”
“We’re going to have a fundraiser,” Nathan explains in a teaser for “Brother’s Keeper” (via YouTube).
“Our very own choir festival,” Elizabeth adds.
If they can pull off the festival, they just might be able to get everybody’s money back, Tom explains to Faith (Andrea Brooks). But if it doesn’t work, he could be facing serious consequences.
“You’re not actually going to put Tom in jail, are you?” Elizabeth asks Nathan in another clip (via YouTube).
“Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that,” he replies.
When Calls the Heart airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on Hallmark Channel.
