Things will heat up in Hope Valley during season 8, episode 2 of When Calls the Heart. In “Honestly, Elizabeth,” Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) gets to know her book editor — and Lucas’ (Chris McNally) mother — Helen Bouchard (Teryl Rothery). But it looks like her relationship with her potential future mother-in-law is off to a rocky start, based on a trailer for the upcoming episode, which airs Feb. 28. Plus, it sounds like Nathan (Kevin McGarry) has made a big decision regarding his future.

Elizabeth and Helen clash in the upcoming episode of ‘When Calls the Heart’

Elizabeth was overjoyed when she achieved her dream of landing a book deal at the end of season 7. But writing a book is a difficult task, she’s discovered. While she’s finally finished the first draft of her novel, she missed her deadline. Helen doesn’t hesitate to remind Elizabeth of that, as we see in the episode teaser.

Helen tells Elizabeth she is “undisciplined.” The teacher tries to explain to her editor why it took her longer than expected to finish the manuscript.

“I decided not to let my writing interfere with my life,” she says.

“Perhaps then my trip was for nothing,” Helen replies.

Elizabeth explains she came to Hope Valley to be a teacher, not a writer. Helen isn’t amused. She urges Elizabeth to demonstrate “a teensy-weensy bit of dedication to the craft of writing.”

Elizabeth is clearly taken aback by Helen’s bluntness. But perhaps she just needs to get used to Helen’s personality. “Her bark is much worse than her bite,” Lucas tells Elizabeth at another point in the trailer.

Nathan decides to ‘settle down’

Also in the trailer, we see a snippet of a conversation between Elizabeth and Nathan.

“I think it’s time that I settle down,” he tells a surprised-looking Elizabeth. During the season premiere, Nathan announced that he’d decided to formally adopt his niece Allie (Jaeda Lily Miller). Now, it sounds like he’s planning on putting down permanent roots in Hope Valley. Does that also mean he’s going to be more upfront about looking for a woman with whom he can do that settling? It definitely sounds like it.

Hearties will also meet a new Hope Valley resident in Sunday’s episode. In first-look photos shared by Hallmark, it seems that Joseph Canfield (Viv Leacock) has arrived in town. Canfield and his family hope to buy Hope Valley’s gas station.

In the meantime, a newcomer in town — perhaps Joseph — is on hand to share some advice with Rosemary (Pascale Hutton). After Lee (Kavan Smith) is injured in an accident, the person offers Rosemary words of comfort that cause her to reflect on what she wants from life.
