‘When Calls the Heart’: Season 9 Finale Teaser Raises Fears Lee (Kavan Smith) Might Be Leaving Show
Is Lee going to be OK? A preview for the When Calls the Heart Season 9 finale suggests that the character, who is played by Kavan Smith, puts his life on the line when a fire breaks out at the Queen of Hearts saloon.

A fire at the saloon leads to a dramatic moment in the ‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 9 finale
The When Calls the Heart Season 9 finale airs May 22 on Hallmark Channel, and the season-ending episode looks to be filled with big moments. A preview for “Rock, A Bye, Baby,” features Henry Gowen (Martin Cummins) behind bars, an apparent confirmation of Rosemary’s (Pascale Hutton) pregnancy, and what looks like a proposal scene for Lucas (Chris McNally) and Elizabeth (Erin Krakow). But the most dramatic moment comes at the end of the clip.
“The saloon’s on fire,” a breathless Joseph (Viv Leacock) tells Elizabeth.
Next, we see Lee and Rosemary outside of the Queen of Hearts, which is engulfed in flames. Lee rushes into the burning building, while Rosemary cries out for her husband.
Could Lee (Kavan Smith) be leaving ‘When Calls the Heart’?
Lee appears to make a heroic effort to help others trapped in the saloon fire. But could his selfless move put his life in jeopardy? Some fans fear the worst after the gasp-inducing preview.
“They better not kill Lee,” one person commented on Instagram.
“I hope Lee doesn’t die,” another wrote.
An exit for Lee would be particularly devastating if Rosemary really is expecting her first child. The couple have dreamed for years of having a baby. To kill off Lee just as he’s about to become a father would be tough for some fans to deal with. Such a move might also play like a rehash of a devastating season 5 plot point, when Elizabeth’s husband Jack (Daniel Lissing) died during a training accident. Soon after, she learned she was pregnant with their first child.
Will Lucas propose to Elizabeth?
Lee and Rosemary aren’t the only Hope Valley couple who could have a big moment in the When Calls the Heart Season 9 finale. The preview also shows Lucas getting down on one knee in front of Elizabeth. “I’ve never been more sure,” he says to her. Is he ready to propose? Fans – and Elizabeth – suspected he might be on the verge of popping the question in episode 11. But that mysterious red box ended up containing a pair of earrings, not an engagement ring.
Lucas might not have been ready to ask Elizabeth to marry him in the May 15 episode, but the confusion over her birthday gift did lead them to say “I love you” to each other for the first time. Now that there’s no question about where they stand as couple, a proposal seems like the next logical step.
