‘When Calls the Heart’ Star Erin Krakow Wishes Chris McNally a Happy Birthday, Shares Photo of the Pair Recreating ‘American Gothic’
When Calls the Heart star Chris McNally celebrated his birthday Nov. 8, and he received some well wishes from his co-star Erin Krakow. She took Twitter to sing the praises of her fellow cast member, penning a short poem for him and sharing a photo of the two recreating an iconic painting.

In her short-but-sweet poem, Krakow gently poked fun at her onscreen love interest.
“Happy Birthday to my fellow dork/Who is equally pumped up by work./Wanna get him a treat?/Try wine, vinyl, or sweets -/But all Chris really wants is a fork!” she wrote.
Krakow — who plays Elizabeth Thornton on the Hallmark Channel drama — appeared to be referencing a recent Facebook Live performance by fellow When Calls the Heart stars Paul Greene and Kevin McGarry, where McNally can be seen sitting in the background and chewing on a plastic fork.
In her tweet, Krakow also shared a photo of herself and McNally where they recreate the painting “American Gothic’ by Grant Wood. The 1930 artwork depicts an elderly farming couple standing in front of a house, with the man holding a pitchfork. McNally and Krakow are in costume as their When Calls the Heart characters and he is holding a pitchfork.

When Calls the Heart has been airing on Hallmark Channel since 2014, but McNally is a relatively new addition to the cast. He joined the show for season 6 in 2019, playing a newcomer to the small town of Hope Valley, Lucas Bouchard.
Some Hope Valley were skeptical of the new owner of the town’s saloon. But it didn’t take long for him to win people over, especially the widowed Elizabeth. A romance has been brewing between the pair over the past two seasons. However, things have been complicated by the presence of Nathan Grant (McGarry), the new mountie in town who also has feelings for Elizabeth.
McNally weighs in on the ‘When Calls the Heart’ love triangle
The Lucas-Elizabeth-Nathan love triangle has inspired strong feelings among Hearties, with some declaring themselves members of Team Lucas and others throwing their support to Team Nathan.
McNally has even weighed in on the issue, revealing in a recent appearance on The Sarah Scoop Show that he was Team Lucas.
“It is tough. They both have great characteristics,” he said. “Personally, I enjoy a little bit more of a sense of adventure and I see that in Lucas. Whereas Nathan is very stable, very safe and I’m looking for a little more fun and spontaneity.
“But Nathan is an awesome guy,” McNally added. “He takes great care of [his niece] Allie. He’s got a good heart … You can’t go wrong with Nathan.”
