Superstar English singer Adele announced today that she will be guest hosting on Saturday Night Live this weekend.

Unlike her previous appearances on the late-night comedy show, the star, who’s famous for her soulful voice, won’t be singing. Instead she’ll be taking part in many of the show’s skits and H.E.R. will be the musical guest.

Here’s a look at Adele’s previous appearances on SNL, one also at a pivotal moment for the US.

Adele is hosting ‘SNL’ this weekend

Other than her fans, the only person more excited about Adele’s appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend is the performer herself. And in classic Adele style, she is keeping it real on social media, announcing her big news without holding back from her fans the anxiety she’s feeling.

“Bloooooody hellllll I’m so excited about this!!,” she said on Instagram. “And also absolutely terrified! My first ever hosting gig and for SNL of all things!!!!”

Her appearance on the show will be Adele’s first time as an actor, no singing at all.

“I’ve always wanted to do it as a stand alone moment,” she admitted, “so that I could roll up my sleeves and fully throw myself into it, but the time has never been right. But if there was ever a time for any of us to jump head first into the deep end with our eyes closed and hope for the best it’s 2020 right?”

She last appeared in 2015 and in election year 2008 before that

Adele appeared on SNL last as a musical guest in 2015 on which she sang “Hello” and “When We Were Young” from the album she released that year, 25.

Matthew McConaughey was the show’s guest host. She told Jimmy Fallon on his late-night show that year about hosting SNL, “It’s so live! It’s like, really, actually live. You just think something’s going to go wrong, and nothing did.”

Her appearance before that, in 2008, was the highest-rated episode the show had had in 14 years, according to USA Today. It also catapulted Adele to international stardom.

Republican vice-presidential candidate that year, Sarah Palin, was scheduled to appear on the show the week before Adele. Plans changed and she ended up on the same show as the multiplatinum singer.

Adele was eternally grateful, telling the BBC, “[19] shot to No. 1 on iTunes, and I was nominated for a Grammy, and then I won one. It was a joke. It was a joke. All thanks to Sarah Palin.”

Her tweet today also alluded to that year’s performance on the show.

“It’ll be almost 12 years to the day that I first appeared on the show, during an election…which went on to break my career in America, so it feels full circle and I just couldn’t possibly say no!

“I am besides myself that H.E.R will be the musical guest!! I love her SO much I can’t wait to melt into a flaming hot mess when she performs, then confuse myself while I laugh my arse off in between it all. See you next week.”

Two things fans are eager to see from Adele

In her appearance on SNL this weekend, the singer’s fans are eager to see just her, naturally. But they’re excited to see her physical transformation with the fitness goals she’s accomplished.

The other news they’re longing to hear from the star is that new music is forthcoming from her.

New music may very well be likely, considering that her 2015 appearance on the show was the year she released 25. And her musical appearance in 2008 was the year of her album, 19.

Who knows, we may be getting new music from Adele this year after all if patterns are to be depended on!
