Teaser reveals meet-cute for new ‘When Hope Calls’ characters
An Instagram post announcing the premiere date also included a brief first look at the new season of the period drama. In the clip, Mountie Michael (Christopher Russell) abruptly stops Nora (Cindy Busby) when she walks past his table in a cafe. She’s taken aback, but quickly realizes that he was just stopping her from stepping in some spilled water, which could have caused her to trip.
“Hate to see you have an accident,” he says.
The two then share a smile as she leaves the restaurant.
Mountie Michael and Nora are new characters in When Hope Calls Season 2. When the show premiered on Hallmark Movies Now in 2019, it focused on a pair of sisters, Lillian (Morgan Kohan) and Grace (Jocelyn Hudon) who were running an orphanage in the small Canadian town of Brookfield.
Hudon did not return for the 2021 When Hope Calls Christmas special, which aired on Great American Family. (She’s now a series regular on NBC’s Chicago Fire.) Greg Hovanessian, who played Grace’s love interest Chuck” Stewart also did not return.
Will Morgan Kohan return for ‘When Hope Calls’ Season 2?
While Hudon and Hovanessian won’t be back for When Hope Calls Season 2, Kohan (who now stars in The CW’s Sullivan’s Crossing) will return, as will Ryan-James Hatanaka, who plays Mountie Gabriel. However, the network has hinted that they will not appear in all eight episodes of season 2.
When Hope Calls’ second season will begin by “pay[ing] homage to the romance of Lillian and Mountie Gabriel,” Great American Family shared in a press release. But as the season progresses, “new characters are introduced that are seminal to the orphanage and children, the sprawling farms and ranchlands, and to the town of Brookfield.”
Other confirmed season 2 cast members include Nick Bateman as Wyatt, Wendy Crewson as Tess Stewart, and Hanneke Talbot as Maggie Parsons.
When Hope Calls Season 1 is streaming on Hallmark+. When Hope Calls Christmas is streaming on PureFlix and Prime Video.
