When Will Bridgerton Return for Season 2? Here’s the Latest Update
After hearing the devastating news that Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page) will not return, fans still want to know when Bridgerton Season 2 will be out on Netflix. The period drama produced by Grey’s Anatomy’s Shonda Rhimes shattered records and became Netflix’s most-watched television debut.
Why is Regé-Jean Page leaving ‘Bridgerton’?
The first season of Bridgerton followed Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and her romance with Simon. For many fans, their scheme and love story was the highlight of the series. Naturally, viewers were devastated to hear that Regé-Jean Page will not return for Bridgerton season 2.
“While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,” a letter from Lady Whistledown read. “We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.”
In an interview with Variety, Page explained that he only signed on for a one-year contract for Bridgerton.
“It’s a one-season arc,” Page told the outlet. “It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end – give us a year. [I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit, and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”
Who is in the new ‘Bridgerton’ cast for season 2 when it returns?
Except for Page, many of the other cast members will return for Bridgerton Season 2. Dynevor will return as Daphne, but the story will focus on her older brother, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), and his quest to find a wife.
The other Bridgerton siblings will also return, including Benedict (Luke Thompson), Colin (Luke Newton), Eloise (Claudia Jesse), Francesca (Ruby Stokes), Gregory (Wil Tilston), and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt). Of course, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) must return and report on all of the gossip and scandals with her letters as Lady Whistledown.
The four newcomers to the Bridgerton Season 2 cast include Charithra Chandran, who will play Edwina Sharma, Kate’s younger sister.
“Shelley Conn will play Mary Sharma, Kate’s mother,” the Bridgerton social media reported. “Also, say hello to Calam Lynch, who will play Theo Sharpe and Rupert Young, who will play Jack.”
When will ‘Bridgerton’ return for Season 2?
Bridgerton Season 2 got the green light from Netflix to return on Jan. 21, 2021. They planned to start filming in the spring. According to The Hollywood Reporter the show’s first table read took place in London on March 29. So, season 2 is currently underway. No set date of return was announced for Bridgerton Season 2 yet.
