Where Is ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Filmed? Can Fans Attend the Finale of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Season 12? Here’s What We Know
It’s been about a month since this drag performer permiered his spin-off series, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. Now, the time has come — for RuPaul to crown “the United Kingdom’s Next Drag Superstar.” Will this finale be filmed in front of an audience? Can fans attend the finale of this Drag Race season? Here’s what we know about the last episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.
Where was ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’ filmed?
While seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race are filmed in Los Angeles, RuPaul took his Emmy-award winning series overseas. This season of Drag Race featured contests from the United Kingdom, all competing for the title of “the UK’s Next Drag Superstar.”
From January to March 2019, 3 Mills Studios hosted the queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 1. This building is located in London, England, the same country that many of the contestants reside in. Though nothing is confirmed, some reports state that the finale of this season could be filmed in the same location.
Can fans attend the ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’
For seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race created in the United States, the crowning typically follows a formula. The finale is filmed in front of a live audience and after the lip-sync performances, RuPaul films each of the final contestants winning. (This is to prevent spoilers.) The winner is later chosen by RuPaul, and that’s the version that airs on television.
Presumably, this crowning will be similar to that of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars, in that RuPaul awards the winner on the mainstage, instead of being in front of an audience. Bustle reports, “In terms of how the UK finale will match up to the U.S. one, there is one key difference. I reached out to a representative from BBC Three who told me that the UK final won’t be aired live like they have done in the U.S. for the past few seasons.”
Some former contestants are hosting events and viewing parties for the finale of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’
Most fans won’t be able to see the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in person. However, fans of the series are celebrating the finale with events and viewing parties. Performer Blu Hydrangea is hosting a viewing party in the United Kingdom, along with former contestant Gothy Kendoll.
This is only the beginning for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. RuPaul is already casting for the second season of this spin-off series. Some fans shared their support for this series. During a statement, RuPaul said, “I want to thank the BBC and all our fans for their overwhelming support of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. This season’s queens proved that Britain’s Got Charisma Uniqueness Nerve and Talent and I want to see more! Here’s to another season of love, laughter, and light!”
