Whitney Houston’s Guest Home is Up For Sale
For anyone who wants a piece of Whitney Houston’s legacy, her former New Jersey guest home is available for purchase. Houston, a New Jersey native, didn’t steer too far away from the East Coast despite her rise to stardom. The former guest home of the “I Will Always Love You” has plenty of room and maintains several of the original special touches she designed.
‘Sparkle’ singer’s former guest home is listed for $1.6 million
Houston purchased the Mendham Township mansion in 1993. At the time, she was newly married to Bobby Brown and had recently given birth to their only child together, Bobbi Kristina Brown. A few years prior, she purchased the main home adjacent to the property. At the time of the purchase, Houston paid $537,000 for the guest home.
The ranch-style home sits on 5 rolling acres and features a built-in recording studio that The Bodyguard star made much of her music in. The recording studio boasts a purple accent wall, which was Houston’s favorite color. The current owners of the home purchased it in 2010 from Houston herself for nearly $1 million. They say the studio has been fairly untouched since and has been used as a “sound-proof home office.”
“The former recording studio is currently a media room, gym area, office, and kitchenette but could have a multitude of uses as the soundproof glass walls provide unique possibilities,” the listing reads, per The New York Post. When Houston owned the home, there was a built-in indoor pool. The current owners converted the indoor pool into a three-season pavilion.
“It’s such a unique opportunity not just to be part of a piece of history but also to own a special home,” listing agent Liane Dobson of Kienlen Lattmann Sotheby’s International Realty told The Post. The home was featured in a few television specials Houston did in the early 1990s.
The listing comes amid several projects Whitney Houston’s estate has in the works
In addition to Houston’s former guest home being available, her estate has been keeping her name and likeness in the headlines as of late with a series of projects. One of the major projects is the estate’s first authorized biopic slated for release this Christmas.
The film, titled after Houston’s No. 1 1987 hit single “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” stars Naomi Ackie as Houston. Per Deadline’s official description of the movie, it’s a “joyous, emotional and heart-breaking celebration of the life and music of the greatest female R&B pop vocalist of all time, tracking her journey from obscurity to musical superstardom. While being very frank about the price that super-stardom exacted, it will be both the rich and complex saga of the search for the perfect marriage between song and singer and audience, and at the same time the moving tale of a simple Jersey girl trying to find her way back home.”
A musical and other projects are also forthcoming
Aside from the movie, there’s a Broadway musical based on the biopic in the works. The estate is also gearing up for a big campaign in honor of what would have been Houston’s 60th birthday in 2023. The campaign will roll out two albums.
Fans of Houston can currently purchase graphic t-shirts with Houston’s image on them at participating Forever 21 stores. There’s also a doll line, and a makeup collaboration with MAC Cosmetics in motion.
