Suddenly, everyone one interested in the dark-haired beauty, but Hathaway has actually been around in Hollywood for quite some time, and she has the romances to prove it — including a scandalous relationship with a handsome Italian con-artist.
Here’s the rundown on who Hathaway is in love with now, and who she dated in the past.
Anne Hathaway is married to Adam Shulman and struggles with infertility
Hathaway is currently married to actor and businessman Adam Shulman. After four years of dating, they tied the knot with a ceremony on the California coast.
According to USA Today, the reason they get along so well is that they both enjoy a low-key lifestyle. When asked by the news organization in 2012, what makes them click as a couple, Hathaway answered, “We have house parties and dinner parties and just hang out,” Hathaway said. “I’m so delighted by [Adam]. He’s all the things you want a partner to be. I so find joy in his presence.”
The couple is now expecting their second child, after their son Jonathan was born in 2016. Hathaway has been very honest about her struggle to conceive during both pregnancies.
When she made the announcement of her current pregnancy on Instagram, she was very aware of how it would affect women who are currently struggling with infertility, and she tried to be as tactful as she could about it.
As part of her post, she wrote, “…for everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love.”
Then, speaking to the Daily Mail, Hathaway explained her desire to include those words in her announcement. “When I was writing that post,” she said, “I was thinking about that one follower I might reach, the woman who’s in hell about this and can’t figure out why it’s not happening for her. She’s going to see my announcement and, while I understand she will be happy for me, I also know that something about it will make her feel worse. I just wanted to say: ‘Look, this wasn’t as easy for me as it looks.'”
Hathaway dated a con artist
Before settling down with her husband, Hathaway had a romance with an Italian fraudster named Raffaello Follieri.
They met through a mutual friend in 2004, when Hathaway was 21 years old. Follieri was an hour late for their first date, which turned Hathaway off. She kept her guard up, although his Italian accent was irresistible.
When he later sent a dozen roses, she forgave his tardiness and fell quickly in love. “It was totally love at first sight,” she admitted in an interview, as reported by Vanity Fair Hive. “He is sooo good-looking.… He looks like a god.”
Four years into their relationship, Follieri was arrested and charged with 15 counts of conspiracy, wire fraud, and money-laundering charges. He pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. Hathaway broke off their relationship just 10 days before his sentencing.
Hathaway dated a few men in her younger years
Before Follieri, information on Hathaway’s romances is hard to come by. She was younger, and not yet the big star she would become, so the media wasn’t as interested in writing about her love life. We do, however, have some details about this time in her life. In 2002, Hathaway had a short relationship with nightclub owner and restaurateur Scott Sartiano.
Before that, Hathaway dated her Ella Enchanted co-star Hugh Dancy for two years, after meeting on the set. But Dancy was older than her and ready to settle down. Hathaway, on the other hand, was just beginning her career and not ready for a serious relationship.
The first public relationship for Hathaway was Topher Grace, who she was rumored to have dated from 1999-2001. Although they are both big stars now, when they dated, these two were both Hollywood newbies.
