Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are music’s cutest couple. From opposite backgrounds, Shelton in country music, and Stefani in pop, they’re not the most obvious couple, but none of that matters to these two.

When they’re together, they make others jealous. But what was life like for Blake Shelton before Stefani? Who else did he date? Here’s a timeline of all Shelton’s major relationships.

Blake Shelton’s marriage to Kaynette Williams

In 2003, while his music career was just getting off the ground, Shelton married his high school sweetheart, Kaynette Williams, in a private ceremony in Tennessee. Shelton told Country Weekly, “I knew Kaynette was the one. Just because I can’t explain it, I can’t say it’s because we get along or because of the way she looks. It’s just something I feel- you know what I mean? It’s nothing more than just knowing you’re right.”

Unfortunately, those feelings didn’t last, and the pair were divorced three years later. Williams claimed that Shelton was “guilty of inappropriate marital conduct.” Perhaps dealing with the pressures of being a sought-after, hunky, music star, was too much for Shelton, and the marriage, to handle.

Blake Shelton’s marriage to Miranda Lambert

Shelton performed with Miranda Lambert at the CMT 100 Greatest Duets Concert in 2005, while he was still married to Williams. The pair fell in love, right there on the stage. Lambert said of the experience, “I knew he was married. I had seen their wedding pictures in Country Weekly. I knew better, like, this is off limits.”

Shelton admitted he felt the same way. “I’ve never had that kind of experience with anybody,” he said. “I was a married guy, you know? Standing up there and singing with somebody and going, ‘Man, this shouldn’t be happening.’ Looking back on that, I was falling in love with her, right there on stage.”

Once Shelton filed for divorce from Williams, he began dating Lambert. The pair dated for several years, until, after getting permission from her father, Shelton asked Lambert to marry him. They celebrated with Bacardi and Diet Sprites- in a solo cup.

The couple married in a celebrity-filled wedding, on a Texas Ranch. Shelton’s mom told People, “Blake was staring so hard at Miranda when he was saying his vows. He said it like he meant it. He wasn’t stumbling around or being funny. And Miranda really cried.”

By 2015, the relationship had fallen apart, and they filed for divorce.

Blake Shelton partners with Gwen Stefani

Meeting for the first time as judges on The Voice, Stefani and Shelton handled the stress of divorce by leaning on each other. Both of their marriages, Shelton to Lambert, and Stefani to Gavin Rossdale, had ended at about the same time. After working on collaborations and performing duets together, the pair announced they were dating in 2015. Shelton later told Billboard,

“Gwen saved my life. Who else on earth could understand going through a high-profile divorce from another musician? You can’t even imagine to similarities in our divorces… Next thing I know, I wake up and Gwen’s all I care about, and I’m wondering if she feels the same about me.”

The couple continued to make gah-gah eyes at each other until all anyone could talk about was how in love Shelton and Stefani were. Their co-worker on The Voice, Adam Levine, told Howard Stern, “They’re so in love, it’s disgusting.”

Stefani has said the couple isn’t in any hurry to get married, but that doesn’t mean the relationship isn’t serious. According to Taste of Country, when asked about the relationship, Shelton said,

“Gwen and I aren’t just dating, you know. This is something that I feel is meant to be. I’ve learned more from Gwen Stefani as a human being than I have from anybody ever in my life. Anybody. She’s everything that you could hope a human being could be.”

Very sweet.

Happily ever after for Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani

Although it doesn’t look like marriage is anywhere on the horizon, (they’re probably holding off due to their mutual divorce history) Shelton appears to have finally found someone that makes him really happy. Hopefully, they’ll be able to defy the odds of a high profile relationship and finally live happily ever after.
