James Charles and his gang posted their first YouTube video together in 2018

James Charles couldn’t stay sister-solo forever! Throughout his YouTube career, the beauty guru collaborated with influencers, from makeup artist Jeffree Star to celebrity Kylie Jenner to drag queen Plastique Tiara. It wasn’t until 2018, however, that the Sister Squad became a YouTube ensemble.

The squad consists of YouTube celebrities Emma Chamberlain and the Dolan Twins, Grayson and Ethan.

Although James Charles posted videos with the Dolan twins and Emma Chamberlain separately, the group finally joined together and unofficially nicknamed themselves the “Sister Squad” in October 2018. Since then, the clique frequently posts videos doing each other’s makeup, getting hypnotized, and everything in between.

Who is Emma Chamberlain?

Emma Chamberlain started her YouTube account in 2017 and found success virtually overnight. In one year, she went from zero to over 4 million subscribers. She started out posting DIY videos and lookbooks until she grew into a lifestyle account. Today, Emma Chamberlain has 7.7 million subscribers.

“I didn’t know any YouTubers [in the beginning] and I wanted them to know about me,” said Emma Chamberlain in an interview with Forbes. “When I was younger and used to watch people like Tana Mongeau, The Dolan Twins, and James Charles, I would think that it would be so cool to be friends with them. Now it’s so cool to have them in my life. They’re some of the best friends I’ve ever had.”

Who are the Dolan Twins?

Ethan and Grayson Dolan got their start on the app Vine in 2013. Now six years later, the duo has almost 10 million subscribers on their YouTube account. It wasn’t until 2017 that the Dolan twins became friends with James Charles.

“Me and the Dolans met from me literally leaving thirsty comments on their Instagram pictures, so that was fun because they’re the best,” James Charles said in an interview with Heard Well. “They actually reached out me to last Halloween and asked me to do their Halloween makeup… We both are just very, very business focused, strong-willed kids, and we just have a lot of the same values, and they’ve been truly amazing friends of mine.”

There are other ‘YouTube squads,’ like Team 10 and David Dobrik’s Vlog Squad

Whether you’re in the Logang or Team 10, there’s a YouTube friend group for every personality. The Sister Squad is one of many YouTube cliques subscribers can virtually join.

“The Vlog Squad,” a term coined by David Dobrik’s fans, includes famous former Vine celebrities such as Liza Kochy, Zane Hijazi, Heath Hussar, and Drake and Josh alumni, Josh Peck. In 2018, this friend group won the Shorty Award for “Best YouTube ensemble.”

The 2019 Shorty Awards recipient for “YouTuber of the Year,” Shane Dawson, has an unnamed squad that occasionally pops up in the trending bar on YouTube. That includes 2019 “Vlogger of the Year” Ryland Adams, Morgan Adams, Garrett Watts, and Andrew Siwicki.

The future of the Sister Squad is unknown, due to drama between James Charles and beauty influencer, Tati Westbrook.
