Tiger Woods was involved in a bad car accident in Los Angeles on Feb. 23, 2021. Since news of the frightening wreck, many people have been reflecting on Woods’ life — especially his relationship with ex-wife Elin Nordegren.

Though Woods and Nordegren’s tumultuous marriage made headlines a decade ago, people are still interested in the details surrounding the pair’s union, including how they met, fell in love, and what ultimately led to their relationship’s demise.

How did Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren meet?

Nordegren and Woods first met during the 2001 Open Championship after being introduced by Swedish golfer Jesper Parnevik, who was her employer at the time.

According to Parnevik’s wife Mia, the Swedish model and ex-nanny wasn’t interested in dating the professional golfer at first, especially since she was seeing someone else at the time.

“She had no interest in Tiger and he was OK with that,” she explained to the NY Daily News. “There was a big line of single golfers wanting to meet her. They were gaga over her.”

Eventually, Nordegren decided to give Woods a chance, and they soon began dating. In 2003, the couple got engaged and married a year later on Oct. 5, 2004.

Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren were married for nearly six years

Three years after tying the knot at the Sandy Lane resort in Barbados, Woods and Nordegren welcomed their first child together, daughter Sam Alexis Woods born in 2007.

Two years later, their second child, son Charlie Axel, was born. While it seemed like the couple’s marriage was going in the right direction, things turned sour in November 2009.

That month, that National Enquirer published a story that alleged Woods had been having an affair with a woman named Rachel Uchitel, a New York City nightclub hostess.

Though Uchitel and Woods initially denied the allegations, Nordegren found out about their relationship after supposedly looking through his phone.

According to the BBC, she was widely believed to have said, “I knew it.”

After Nordegren confronted him about the affair, Woods left their home, hopped in his Cadillac Escalade, and crashed while exiting his property.

Following the news of his car accident, more allegations that the pro golfer had sexual relationships with other women during his marriage to Nordegren began to surface.

Though he later apologized for his infidelity, the damage had already been done to his marriage.

The couple eventually filed for divorce, which was finalized on Aug. 23, 2010. Nordegren received a $100 million settlement as part of their divorce proceedings.

Where does Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren’s relationship stand today?

After splitting from Woods, Nordegren moved on with billionaire Chris Cline, whom she dated from March 2013 to August 2014. Though the two reunited in 2016, nothing romantic came out of that.

In October 2019, the model welcomed a child with her boyfriend, Jordan Cameron, whom she met a little over a year prior.

Though Woods hasn’t welcomed any more children since his divorce from Nordegren, he’s dated his share of women over the years, including Olympic gold medal skier Lindsey Vonn and stylist Kristin Smith.

He’s currently in a relationship with restaurant manager Erica Herman, who he’s been dating since 2017.

As for where Woods and Nordegren’s post-divorce relationship currently stands, it turns out that they have a great co-parenting dynamic.

“We communicate so much better now, it’s incredible,” Woods told Us Weekly in 2019. “I wish we would have done that earlier on, but it’s been incredible to have a best friend like that.”

So, even though things didn’t work out between them, at least Woods and Nordegren were able to put their differences aside and work together to raise their children.
