Why 1 of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s Children Was Not Born in Buckingham Palace
Long before Princess Diana stood on the steps outside of St. Mary’s Hospital showing a future king off to the world, royals had at-home births so the babies were born behind the walls of Buckingham Palace. However, one of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip‘s children was not born at the famed royal residence.

How many children the queen and Prince Philip have?
On Nov. 14, 1948, when she was 22 years old, then-Princess Elizabeth gave birth to her first child, Prince Charles., who weighed 7 lbs, 6 oz. Hello! Magazine noted, that she was in labor for about 30 hours before Charles Philip Arthur George arrived.
Two years later the royal couple welcomed their only daughter, Princess Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise, on Aug. 15, 1950. She weighed in at exactly 6 lbs.
The queen and her husband waited over a decade before having another child. On Feb. 19, 1960, their second son who weighed 7lb 3oz when he was born. They named him Andrew Albert Christian Edward.
Following Prince Andrew’s birth, the monarch delivered her youngest child, Edward Antony Richard Louis, on March 10, 1964. Prince Edward weighed just 5lbs 7oz at birth.
Which royal was not born at Buckingham Palace and why?
Although Prince Charles’ own children born in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Charles was born in Buckingham Palace as were both of his brothers, but Princess Anne was not.
The Princess Royal was born at Clarence House, which is another one of the family’s royal residences located in London. According to Town & Country, the reason she was born there is because at the time Buckingham Palace was undergoing renovations to repair the damage it sustained during World War II. The family lived at Clarence House from 1949 until 1953.
Clarence House later became the home of the Queen Mother, who lived there from 1953 until 2002. Today, it is the official London residence of Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
Prince Philip was only present for the birth of 1 of his children
Prince Philip only witnessed the birth of one of his kids. Like most royal fathers at that time the Duke of Edinburgh was not in the room to see any of his children born except Prince Edward.
Philip was on hand to welcome his youngest son into the world and made history in doing so.
