Why Adele Decided It Was Time for a Change: Her Dramatic Transformation Wasn’t About Weight Loss
Adele has a whole new look. Fans were stunned when the British singer showed off her slimmer figure a few months ago at Drake’s birthday party. Now, new photos of the Grammy-winner on a New Year’s beach vacation have gotten tongues wagging again, with some people celebrating her weight loss and others arguing that praising it is fat-phobic.
An insider told People that Adele’s recent transformation isn’t about getting skinny. Instead, she wanted to be a healthy mom for her 7-year-old son.
Adele wants to be the ‘healthiest mom possible’
“It’s easy to just focus on her physical transformation, but this is really about something bigger,” the insider explained to the magazine. “She got to the point where she didn’t feel great. She knew she had to change something, because she wants to be the healthiest mom possible.”
The source added that the recently divorced 31-year-old is “happy” and “excited about the future.” She and Simon Korecki announced their separation in April 2019 and filed for divorce in September.
The singer is living a healthier lifestyle
The insider told People that getting healthier, not losing weight, was the “Rolling in the Deep” singer’s primary goal.
“Her whole focus during the weight loss journey has really how been all about how she can be healthier and how can she treat her body better,” they said. “It was never about losing weight. Her weight loss happened because she has cut down drinking and is eating more real food. But she now loves her physical transformation too. She is more confident, dresses differently and she just seems happier overall.”
Adele kicked off 2020 with an Anguilla vacation with Harry Styles and James Corden. A fan who met the singer at a restaurant on the Caribbean island said she told them that she’d lost 100 pounds.
What Adele’s former personal trainer has to say
Personal trainer Camila Goodis, who once worked with Adele, says that her weight loss has everything to do with diet.
“She’s changed her lifestyle. She’s been working out more but 90% what she did is diet,” she said during an appearance on Lorraine, which airs on ITV in the U.K.
“The first week is intense, green juices and only 1,000 calories. She doesn’t look too thin — she looks amazing,” the trainer added.
She’s following the Sirtfood Diet
Adele is reportedly following the Sirtfood Diet. The diet focuses on consuming foods high in sirtuin activators, Marie Claire U.K. explains. These proteins are supposed to help control metabolism, boost muscle, and burn fat. Foods like apples, citrus, blueberries, olive oil, argula, coffee, red wine, and chocolate are all included on the list of foods to eat. And as Goodis explained, you kickstart the diet plan by cutting calories dramatically in the first weeks on the plan and consuming a lot of juice.
While following the low-calorie plan in the first few weeks will likely lead to weight loss, an expert who spoke to Good Housekeeping said that limiting protein during this period might cause you to lose muscle mass. However, the foods you’re encouraged to eat on the diet are generally considered healthy.
