Why Chip and Joanna Gaines Give Their Kids New Christmas Ornaments Every Year
Chip and Joanna Gaines have many family holiday traditions from what they eat on Christmas morning to decorating their tree pretty early. So it’s probably not surprising that the two also have a tradition specifically around Christmas ornaments. Why do Chip and Joanna Gaines give their kids new ornaments every year? Here is why and the one Christmas tradition they actually had to change this year.
Chip Gaines’ mom started the tradition of giving Christmas ornaments on Thanksgiving
The family has beautiful Christmas trees and it’s partially because of their professional decorating skills. But also, they have their kids do crafts so you might find a few popsicle frames on their tree. The kids also get ornaments through a unique family tradition.
The Gaines family has been getting an early start to Christmas for some time now mostly because of the father’s mom. They decided to keep the tradition alive. “Chip’s mom started a fun tradition when we first got married, where she would give all of us an ornament at Thanksgiving,” Joanna Gaines wrote on her blog. “I loved it so much that I started something similar.”
Joanna Gaines gives the kids an ornament tied to a memory every year
Instead of just getting generic ornaments, the mother gifts her kids with ones that would remind them what they did that year. “Every holiday season, I get Chip and the kids an ornament that goes along with a memory from that year,” wrote the mother. “I write their name and the date on the bottom, so as they get older, each one of them has a little collection that’s all their own.”
She also revealed that they have a new spot for their Christmas tree because of Crew
Things have changed with the new addition to the Gaines family. Joanna Gaines wrote that their Christmas tree usually went into their den, which they have turned into Crew’s nursery. So this year they have moved the tree to their master bedroom. The mother revealed that she was worried about changing the tradition and never before would have thought of putting the tree in their room.
“Truthfully, I was nervous the kids might be sad that things would look a little different this year,” she wrote. “I even asked them if we should combine the two trees into one for next year, but they all said they love it just the way it turned out. I love how Crew has given us all fresh eyes to see the wonder in our yearly traditions.”
It sounds like their kids probably will have a lot of Christmas ornaments from throughout their lives that will hold different memories. The parents are pretty open about their holiday traditions and being open to changing them when circumstances change.
