Why Demi Moore Says She Was ‘Clinging Too Tight’ To Ashton Kutcher During Their Marriage

In Demi Moore‘s new memoir, she reveals how troublesome her marriage to Ashton Kutcher was. The actor says that although their relationship was terrific at the beginning, as time went on, he became more and more distant. And eventually, it got to the point where Moore was clinging on to Kutcher for dear life.

Moore opens up about how difficult her childhood was in her memoir. Despite being a child, she was constantly taking care of her parents. Growing up in such a chaotic environment, the actor never felt like she had a sense of security.

Yet finally, after meeting Kutcher, Moore felt that sense of safety that she always longed for. Even though she was 40 and he was 25, being with Kutcher made her feel like a girl again. 

“I was a 40-year-old who had a big life,” she told Good Morning America, “And Ashton’s adult life was just beginning. I didn’t see all that because I was inside of it. I just felt like a 15-year-old girl hoping somebody liked me.”

At first, their relationship couldn’t be more perfect. Kutcher would always make her feel incredibly loved, and he’d shower her with affection on a daily basis. Yet as time went on, Moore grew dependent on Kutcher. It got to the point where she admits that she was addicted to her husband. This took a toll on her family, where her daughters felt as though they were being neglected in favor of her new lover. 

For several years, this caused her to be estranged from her three daughters. Yet over time, they re-developed their relationship and became closer than ever before. 

“We grow up thinking that our parents are these immovable gods of Olympus,” her eldest daughter, Rumer, said. “Obviously, as we grow older, we start to realize how much our parents are just people.”

Moore admits in her memoir that she became “addicted” to Kutcher. He became her primary source of happiness, and it got to the point where she became too co-dependent with him. 

Because of this, the That ’70s Show actor began to pull away from her. He thrust himself into his work and became more and more distant. Yet looking back, Moore can understand why he felt suffocated. 

“You know, it’s kind of a natural thing to pull back when somebody’s, you know, clinging too tight,” she revealed, according to Good Morning America.

According to Moore, every one of Kutcher’s actions said, “please don’t love me.” Yet, unfortunately for both of them, she did. Kutcher would cheat on her, act cold, avoid her at all costs, and make up terrible excuses for his behavior. And eventually, Moore granted his wish by divorcing him. 

Moore released a statement to People Magazine, saying, “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton. As a woman, a mother, and a wife, there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life.”
