Why Did Kris Jenner Offer Kim Kardashian West $400k to Walk in a Fashion Show?

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

During the Season 18 premiere of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kris Jenner found herself between a rock and a hard place after Kylie Jenner backs out of a work obligation due to an illness.

With the makeup mogul calling out sick, the momager was determined to find someone else to take her daughter’s place, even if that meant dishing out a pretty penny.

Jenner raced against the clock to find a replacement

There’s no denying that Kris Jenner is an extremely hard worker, and she definitely proved this while trying to find someone to close a fashion show after Kylie Jenner falls ill.

During the Season 18 premiere of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, the Kylie Cosmetics founder announced that she would be walking in Balmain’s Paris Fashion Week ready-to-wear show, where the Kylie x Balmain Collection would be unveiled.

Not only was she going to serve as the Artistic Director of Makeup, but she was also supposed to walk the runway to close the show, which she was extremely excited to do.

“I can’t wait, this is going to be so big for Kylie Cosmetics,” Jenner said.

However, just days before the makeup mogul was set to fly out to Paris, she came down with strep throat.

“I’m here in Paris getting ready and set up for the Kylie Cosmetics collab,” the Kardashian matriarch said during a confessional. “But as we were about to go to the airport, Kylie called me and said she wasn’t feeling well. I called in our family doctor to go to the house and make sure she’s okay and she has any of the medication she might need so she can hop on the plane to get to Paris. I really hope that it’s all going to work out.”

With the fashion show right around the corner, it became clear that the makeup mogul wasn’t going to make it, which prompted the momager to find a replacement for her daughter as soon as possible.

She first called Kendall Jenner to see if she would be willing to take Kylie’s place in the fashion show.

“Mom, I love you and I’d love to save the day but you know I have work here,” the supermodel said over a FaceTime call. “I really can’t.”

Since the momager isn’t one to give up so easily, she decided to bribe her daughter to try and get her to agree. “I’ll give you a Balmain bag,” Jenner persuaded.

Jenner looked to Kardashian West for help

With the model turning down her pleas, Jenner was running out of options and needed to find a replacement fast.

After Kylie officially gave word that she couldn’t make the show, Jenner decided to call Kim Kardashian West to try and convince her to fly to Paris.

“My mom is in Paris crying, calling me on the phone going, ‘You need to come to Paris, you need to close the show,'” the SKIMS founder said. “Kylie’s sickness has gotten a lot worse so I get why my mom is in panic mode because she’s in Paris trying to figure it all out. “If it were me, I’d go on my death bed.”

Though Jenner begged her daughter to stand in for Kylie, Kardashian West argued that walking in the Balmain show would be a conflict of interest with her own makeup brand, KKW Beauty.

But instead of giving up, the momager decided to get creative when making her daughter an offer.

“Would you consider $300,000 in cash and a jet tonight?” Kardashian said while reading back Jenner’s texts. “God, this feels weird lol. But I’m totally legit.”

After the mom of four turned down her proposal, the momager chose to up the ante by persuading her with $100,000 more.

“Okay, she’s upped it,” Kardashian said as she read her mom’s text. “400k now. I won’t take a commission. The jet can leave tonight. You can bring North.”

Though she felt terrible her mom was in this predicament, the SKIMS founder ultimately decided against walking in the show, leaving Jenner out of options.

But despite everything not going as planned, the show was still a success, and Kylie eventually recovered from that strep throat and staph infection.

Hopefully, the next time Jenner agrees to close a fashion show, she’ll be in good health so her mom won’t have to find someone last minute to take her place — again.
