Why Do All the Kardashians’ Names Start with K?
Kris Jenner is the mother of the five Jenner-Kardashian girls – Kim, Kourtney, Kylie, Khloe, and Kendall. The world has watched these girls grow and change over the course of time, and there are perhaps no reality television stars quite as famous as the Keeping Up With the Kardashian stars. But everyone wonders about those K names. Similar to how The Duggars of 19 Kids and Counting named all their children starting with “J,” all five famous sisters have “K” names.
Most speculate it was simply a trend started by mom Kris Jenner. But is that the truth? Why do all the Kardashians’ names start with K? And why haven’t the girl’s own children followed the trend? Here’s what we know.
Kris Jenner didn’t start the trend
While it may seem the most obvious answer, the truth is that Kris Jenner did not come up with the “K” name tradition. It was actually her own mother, Mary Jo Campbell, that began the tradition. After giving birth to Kris (whose real name is Kristen), Campbell had a second daughter whom she named Karen. Thus, the birth of the K names was started. Kris Jenner simply continued the tradition with her own five daughters.
Kris Jenner’s sister, Karen, also named her three daughters with “K” names. Karen’s daughters include Kourtni, Kara, and Krista. But why would the five girls break the two-generation “K” name tradition? While Kendall hasn’t yet had any children, her four sisters have all named their children unique names, with no starting “K” in sight. But why?
Kim thought it could be construed as racist
Kim Kardashian is married to rapper, Kanye West. The two have three children, and when asked why she didn’t choose any “K” names, Kim stated she thought it could be misconstrued by the media in some form to be “KKK.” Obviously, that wasn’t something the family wanted.
They opted instead to name their three children North (born 2012), Saint (born 2015), and Chicago (born 2018). Kim and Kanye will be welcoming a fourth child “soon,” the reality television star revealed, via surrogate.
Kourtney hasn’t said why
Kourtney Kardashian has not spoken out as to why she didn’t go with the “K” name theme, but none of her three children have followed the trend. Kourtney has three children with her ex-husband, Scott Disick, whom she was married to from 2006 until 2015. The couple’s children’s names are Mason (born 2009), Penelope (born 2012), and Reign (born 2014).
It doesn’t appear to have been an option for Kylie
Kylie Jenner hasn’t said exactly why she chose to break the family’s tradition with her only daughter, but an interview makes it appear as though that were never an option. The originally chosen name by Jenner and boyfriend, Travis Scott, was Storm. While Jenner liked it at first, she eventually decided it just wasn’t the right name, so it was changed to Stormi. That name obviously stuck, because Stormi Webster was born in February of 2018.
Khloe also didn’t say why, but kept a different tradition
Khloe also hasn’t spoken out as to why her daughter, True (born 2018) doesn’t have a “K” name. She did, however, keep up with a different Kardashian tradition. Neither Kim Kardashian or Kylie Jenner gave their children middle names. Khloe’s daughter with ex-boyfriend, Tristan Thompson, also does not have a middle name, according to her birth certificate.
Kendall may not ever have children
Kendall Jenner is currently the only Kardashian-Jenner child who does not have any kids of her own… and it seems she is no big rush. An article with Elle Magazine said Kendall joked about an image of herself she took on Thanksgiving Day, referencing how she was the only sibling without kids. “All my siblings posting their babies and sh*t and I’m just like…”
