Why Eminem Is ‘Stressed Out’ About Mariah Carey’s Upcoming Memoir
Eminem is bracing himself for what Mariah Carey plans to unveil in her upcoming memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. Though the book’s release date isn’t until September, the rapper is reportedly on edge about what the singer could reveal about their past romance.
A recap of Eminem and Mariah Carey’s relationship
For those of you who don’t know, Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, and Carey go way back.
Though they’ve been publicly feuding for years, Eminem previously claimed that he and the singer once had a relationship he considered “very toxic.”
In 2002, the “Lose Yourself” rapper hinted at their alleged romance in his songs “Superman” and “When The Music Stops.”
He also opened up about his past relationship with Carey during an interview with Rolling Stone that same year.
“I don’t want to say anything disrespectful because I respect her as a singer, but on the whole personal level, I’m not really feeling it. I just don’t like her as a person,” he said. “I gotta be honest; I learned a lesson from it: Don’t believe the hype. I have respect for her, but she doesn’t really have it all together. I’ll just say that and that she’s a beautiful woman.”
The “Always Be My Baby” singer later denied those claims, telling Larry King that she and Eminem never had a romantic relationship.
“I hung out with him, I spoke to him on the phone. I think I was probably with him a total of four times,” she told the famed host. “And I don’t consider that dating somebody.”
Since then, the musicians have continued taking lyrical jabs at each other. From Eminem rapping about the singer and her ex-husband, Nick Cannon, on “Bagpipes From Bagdad” to her responding to his diss with “Obsessed,” the Grammy winners haven’t been afraid to put each other on blast publicly — and apparently still aren’t.
Eminem thinks Mariah Carey is going to shine a negative light on him in her book
Though their alleged romance was never serious to Carey, Eminem believes that she’ll touch upon it in her upcoming memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey.
Since the rapper’s notoriously private, the thought of Carey releasing a tell-all memoir about her life isn’t sitting well with him as he doesn’t want the details surrounding their alleged romance to become public knowledge.
“Eminem’s Achilles heel has always been Mariah Carey. They had a very toxic relationship,” an insider recently told Us Weekly. “He knows that Mariah is going to say very negative things about him. He is expecting the onslaught, and almost welcomes it.”
The source adds, “Marshall is stressed out that Mariah is going to say sh*t that he was bad in bed or a selfish lover because he has always been very insecure about that. She knows that.”
Though it’s unclear if Carey will discuss her and Eminem’s past fling, she has revealed that her memoir “is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered.”
Until the singer’s memoir comes out in September, it seems like Eminem will continue to be on edge as there could be some intense reminiscing ahead.
The Meaning of Mariah Carey will be released on September 29.
