The Tanner family has plenty of love to share. There’s even room for Kimmy Gibbler’s estranged husband and former race car driver, named Fernando. Throughout Fuller House’s multiple seasons, though, this character proved the family just wouldn’t be the same without him.

Here’s what we know about this hilarious (and somewhat self-absorbed) dad from Netflix’s spinoff series.

Michelle Tanner is noticeably missing from this Netflix spinoff series

When most of the Full House cast returned for the Netflix spinoff series Fuller House, one of the Tanner sisters was noticeably missing. That was Michelle Tanner, portrayed by twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

Apparently, Michelle was off in New York working on her fashion empire, or at least that’s what Danny told the rest of the family. DJ’s door is always open, though, even to someone who broke Kimmy’s heart over and over again. That would be her hilarious ex-husband named Fernando.

Fernando (and a few other characters) join the cast for ‘Fuller House’

He may be a failed race car driver and Kimmy Gibbler’s ex-husband, but you can’t put Fernando Hernandez-Guerrero-Fernandez-Guerrero in a box. He’s a performer, a former hairdresser, and super competitive when it comes to board games.

More than anything, Fernando loves his family, especially his teenage daughter Ramona. Even though he was met with some opposition from DJ Tanner, he eventually became one of the people welcome in the “Fuller House.”

“I am not exactly Fernando as you can imagine,” actor Juan Pablo Di Pace said during an interview with Feeling the Vibe. “What I love about him that I am not, is that this guy is unfiltered!  Whatever comes to his mind, he says.”

“He thinks nothing of wearing his wife’s robe, playing with his daughter’s dolls, or taking his daughter to really dangerous car races,” he continued. “I love that he’s a risk-taker, but he’s also tender and sweet. The similarity is that we both love singing and dancing.”

Fernando loves attention, just like Michelle Tanner

Sure, Michelle isn’t there to steal the show with her love of cookies and cake. Although Fernando might not have as much of a sweet tooth, he definitely steals the show with his impromptu musical moments and costumes.

Other characters come in and out of DJ, Stephanie, and Kimmy’s lives. That includes Jimmy Gibbler, who eventually marries the middle Tanner sister. DJ was briefly in a love triangle between her high school sweetheart and her coworker at the Vet Clinic, named Matt. (Of course, she ends up marrying Steve.)

Most episodes of Full House are available for streaming on Hulu. All five seasons of the Netflix original spinoff series, Fuller House, are available on the streaming platform, Netflix.
