Why Have So Many ‘90 Day Fiancé’ Fans Changed Their Opinion of Anfisa Nava?
Anfisa Nava (originally Anfisa Arkhipchenko) was just 20 years old when she moved to the U.S. from her home country of Russia to be with her American fiance, Jorge Nava.
Anfisa and Jorge met online before ultimately getting married on TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After Season 4. It’s unclear if they’re still together now, as Anfisa lives in California while Jorge is behind bars for two and a half years on felony drug-related charges.
At first, the Russia native was the definition of a 90 Day Fiancé “villain.” Jorge’s family, especially his sisters, didn’t approve of her attitude or her desire for a luxury lifestyle. Meanwhile, fans suspected Anfisa was just pretending to be into Jorge for money and a visa.
Since Jorge’s arrest, the 90 Day Fiancé star has turned her life around, pursued a number of new goals, and garnered a massive social media following of her own. With Jorge out of the picture, at least for now, here’s why many 90 Day Fiancé viewers have now grown to admire and respect the formerly notorious Anfisa.
Anfisa was originally viewed by many fans as a ‘gold-digger’ and ‘materialistic’
When Anfisa first moved to the U.S., she seemed to have big dreams of a Hollywood celeb lifestyle. On the show, the young model and college student wanted Jorge to rent a massive house for around $8,000 per month. And while Anfisa and Jorge ultimately had a simple wedding, she originally hoped for an extravagant engagement ring (worth hundreds of thousands of dollars) and a nearly $50,000 wedding dress.
Jorge’s sisters took notice of Anfisa’s hopes for the high life and warned their brother not to get involved with her. Many 90 Day Fiancé fans felt the same way, wondering why Jorge stayed with Anfisa when her motives didn’t seem genuine.

But as the 90 Day Fiancé seasons wore on, it became clear that Anfisa wasn’t the only one exhibiting questionable behavior. Jorge finally admitted that he’d lied about many things in his past, from his finances to his criminal history. Jorge and Anfisa even had to stay in a hotel when she first moved to the U.S. because of at least one felony on his record, which he hadn’t told her about before she arrived.
What’s more, while Jorge seemed to have promised Anfisa the world before she flew across the globe to be with him, it turned out that he was actually financially struggling, weighed down with bad credit and substantial debt.
Jorge also visited a divorce lawyer behind Anfisa’s back and famously lied about the visit on camera. An ex of his even claimed Jorge had fathered and abandoned her baby, which he denied (but which was never confirmed either way).
Finally, it turned out that Jorge’s medical marijuana business wasn’t so legal after all. He is currently behind bars on a 2.5-year sentence after being arrested in Arizona with nearly 300 pounds of marijuana in his car.
As Jorge’s dishonesty came to light and Anfisa appeared to mature, some 90 Day Fiancé fans slowly began to change their opinion of their relationship.
“Anfisa has changed. Jorge hasn’t,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “Anfisa was in it for the money & stuff in the beginning. Now she’s willing to work on her marriage & all she gets are lies from Jorge. He’s so dumb, he seems to forget it’s all on film. Anfisa needs to walk away.”
Another agreed, writing, “I used to blame Anfisa for being a gold digger but she was actually honest about who she was and what she wanted. Jorge lied through his teeth the whole time and continues to do so.”
The Russia native has changed her life for the better
In addition to Jorge’s dishonesty, many 90 Day Fiancé fans have taken note of Anfisa’s work ethic since her husband’s arrest and incarceration. The Russia native has taken steps to open her own fitness business, building muscle and changing her diet in order to become a competitive bodybuilder. Anfisa also became a certified personal trainer in 2019 and is working on building up a client list and releasing workout and diet plans.
With over 550,000 followers on Instagram, Anfisa is an active social media influencer. She is also a college student, having finished her first two years of California community college. The 90 Day Fiancé star, who originally put off her college plans to marry Jorge, recently applied to transfer to a four-year college in the University of California system in order to finish her bachelor’s degree in the U.S.
