When Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck rekindled their romance in 2021 after 20 years apart, Bennifer fans couldn’t believe it. Lopez and Affleck tied the knot in 2022 and bought a mansion in Beverly Hills in May 2023. Unfortunately, Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck in August 2024, shattering the illusion of a happy marriage. Now, the couple stands to lose money on the sale of their mansion. Here’s why they’re going through with it.

A real estate agent explained why Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are willing to lose millions on their Beverly Hills mansion

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck bought their 38,000-square-foot Beverly Hills mansion in May 2023. They paid $60.8 million for the home and listed it for $68 million in July 2024. While the couple tried to sell the property privately at first, they didn’t have much luck. They had interested buyers when they listed the property publicly. A couple from New Jersey gave a $64 million offer on the home, which Lopez and Affleck accepted. Unfortunately, the buyers pulled out of escrow following a death in the family, though they still allegedly have interest.

Lopez and Affleck could take a $25 million loss on the house by selling it for $64 million. Realtor fees, the 5.25% mansion tax, and the millions on renovations they spent through the last year quickly add up. Cara Ameer, a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker, told Realtor.com that the exes should expect to take a hit.

“I think Jen and Ben will be selling at a loss, between what they paid plus their renovations and all of their carrying costs,” Ameer said.

So, why are Affleck and Lopez absorbing the loss instead of raising the price? Ameer noted that they want to sell the place quickly as they go through their divorce and are willing to lose money to do so.

“They want to unload it quickly, so they didn’t dramatically increase the asking to try to recapture all that they spent,” Ameer said.

Owning the home will cost the new owners even more money. They allegedly spend around $283,666 monthly on their taxes, security, HOA fees, maintenance, and utility bills.

Jennifer Garner Takes a Subtle Swipe at Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s $68 Million Mansion

While Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck bought their beautiful Beverly Hills mansion just a year ago, neither allegedly wanted to own it. One source told People that Lopez “compromised” on the home because Affleck loved it.

“The $68 million mansion was Ben’s idea and a major compromise for her,” the source alleged. “She agreed to it because of its spacious layout, accommodating both their families, a gym and a pickleball court, office space, plus it has two private entrances.” The insider added that the home doesn’t suit Lopez’s “style.” She likes “the romantic, Spanish, European vibe.”

However, another source countered that Affleck disliked the home because of its location. He’d rather live in Brentwood near his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, and his three kids.

“It was such a pain and time-consuming for Ben to navigate traffic from their house,” the second source explained. “He never liked it.”

J.Lo is allegedly hemorrhaging money in $100,000 daily shopping sprees

While Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck stand to lose a lot of money on their house sale, it’s allegedly not stopping Lopez from shopping. A source told In Touch Weekly that Lopez is “throwing around money like she’s a billionaire” with her entourage.

“First of all, she’s got this divorce to settle, which could cost her as much as $50 million,” the source said. “On top of it, she’s now forking on all kinds of things, including another $50 million home.” Lopez has been eyeing the Azria Estate in Holmby Hills as her next home.

“She’s treating herself to outrageous shopping sprees,” the insider continued, adding that Lopez calls it “retail therapy” that she needs. “She’s regularly spending a few $100,000 a day on designer clothes for her and her entourage.”
