Why Jeremy Renner Is One of the Most Disliked Actors in Hollywood
Jeremy Renner is embroiled in a controversy right now and is making numerous headlines for recent allegations involving his behavior at home.
However, it is not the first time Renner has been under fire. The actor, who portrays Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has seemingly gained a rep for certain behavior and remarks.
Jeremy Renner’s wife has revealed damaging allegations about their marriage
The most recent controversy involving Renner has to do with his ex-wife as they are in a custody battle involving their daughter. Documents obtained by ET Online state that Sonni Pacheco said Renner allegedly put a gun in his mouth and threatened that he would kill her. She also said that he fired a gun with their daughter, Ava, asleep in her bedroom.
The court documents also state that Renner, while at a club and “intoxicated from cocaine and alcohol,” spoke about killing Pacheco. There are allegations that the nanny also overheard Renner talking about killing Pacheco.
A representative for Renner told ET Online, “The well-being of his daughter Ava has always been and continues to be the primary focus for Jeremy. This is a matter for the court to decide. It’s important to note the dramatizations made in Sonni’s declaration are a one-sided account made with a specific goal in mind.”
Both Pacheco and Renner have filed for sole custody of the child.
He has been accused of slut-shaming Black Widow
After fans accused Renner of slut-shaming Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson), the actor said it was just a joke.
The initial comments were made during an interview that he and Marvel co-star Chris Evans did during a press junket in 2015. They drew criticism for referring to the character as a “slut” and a “complete whore.”
Both issued apologies. Evans’ statement reads like a full apology. “Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a very juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize,” it stated.
However, Renner’s was viewed as sort of a non-apology: “I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”
In an interview with Conan, he continued to double down on the non-apology, “I got in a lot of internet trouble. I guess that’s a thing now you can get in,” he said in part. “Now, mind you, I’m talking about a fictional character and fictional behavior, but Conan, if you slept with four of the six Avengers, no matter how much fun you had, you’d be a slut. Just saying. I’d be a slut.”
Jeremy Renner wanted to get his Marvel character killed off
At one time, Renner was open about how he hated The Avengers.
In 2016 during a Q&A, he said that he used to fake heart attacks on set of the movie, hoping the director would kill off his character.
“I just had a heart attack in every scene – I’d just be walking with… Scarlett Johansson, and just like be ugh. And they said, ‘what are you doing man?’ I’m giving you an option, if you just want to kick me out of this movie. Just you know, at any given moment, if you wanna kill me off, daddy’s gonna be having a heart attack.”
Renner blamed this on how he felt about the Hawkeye’s characterization at the time. “And I’m still not even sure who Hawkeye was at that point. So I’m a little frustrated because I was so excited to figure out who Hawkeye was.”
Hopefully, for Renner’s daughter, the legal proceedings between her father and mother will work out, for her sake.
