What Jessica Simpson Has To Say About Her Father’s Rumored Sexuality
Jessica Simpson is continuing her press tour in promotion of her new memoir and is answering some tough questions along the way.
The one question she’s been asked but refused to delve into is anything related to her father’s rumored sexuality.
Rumors spread about Jessica Simpson’s father after his divorce
Simpson’s parents divorced after over 30-years of marriage. Following the divorce, rumors spread rapidly about Simpson’s father Joe leaving the marriage because he allegedly identified as a member of the LGBT+ community.
When PEOPLE Magazine reported on the divorce in 2012, the Simpsons insisted there was no third party or infidelity that contributed to the split.
“It is an amicable split and there is no third party involved,” their rep said at the time. “Any other related allegations are completely false. The family appreciates your respect for their privacy at this time.”
Despite the Simpson’s claim that things were amicable and there was no cheating involved, rumors and jokes ran rampant. Lachey, who was married to Jessica for three years, got in on the jokes during an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live.
Joe was spotted on trips with a male who tabloid claimed was his partner. He denied that they were together and insisted they worked together, with the mystery man being one of his new modeling clients.
“More mis-information in the news,” he wrote in a tweet after pictures surfaced of the two in Miami together. “The guy in the pics is my modeling Client. He was in Miami taking agency meetings. That’s it!!
Jessica Simpson won’t talk about Joe Simpson’s sexuality
Despite the Simpson’s claim that things were amicable and there was no cheating involved, rumors and jokes ran rampant. Simpson’s ex, Nick Lachey, even took jabs at Joe. got in on the jokes during an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live.
On upcoming episode of SiriusXM’s Town Hall, Simpson spoke to host, Andy Cohen, and called Lachey “bitter.”
During an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked Lachey what he liked the most about not having Joe as a father-in-law anymore. “The best thing about not having Joe Simpson anymore as a father-in-law is I don’t have to play grab-ass under the table on Easter Sunday,” Lachey joked. “It may not be [funny] tomorrow, but it is tonight,” he added.
Jessica did not find Lachey’s comments about her father funny. In fact, she found them to be insensitive and cruel and to this day is pissed that he made such remarks. She called Lachey “bitter.”
“My father called me three days before we left for the wedding to tell me he was bringing his friend Jonathan, a young model he often shot for his new photography business,” the singer writes according to The Blast. “There was a pause but I had to remind myself that I needed to accept my father for who he was as he worked it out in real-time.”
Jessica is in the middle of a press tour in promotion of her memoir Open Book. In alignment with believing Lachey has no right to comment on her father’s personal life, Jessica also opts to not speak on her father’s love life.
In the book, she detailed the moment she discovered her father was bringing a male date to her 2014 wedding with Eric Johnson. “My father called me three days before we left for the wedding to tell me he was bringing his friend Jonathan, a young model he often shot for his new photography business,” the singer writes according to The Blast.”There was a pause but I had to remind myself that I needed to accept my father for who he was as he worked it out in real-time.”
Jessica also wrote on the emotional toll her parents divorce took on her.
“I was blindsided by this news [their divorce], which triggered his natural salesmanship,” she wrote. “He pitched it to me as a positive thing, ‘You gave me the confidence … You gave me the way out.’ Great, I thought to myself, ‘I broke my own heart.’”
She also recently spoke out during her press tour and admitted that her father’s sexuality is not a topic of discussion in her family and that it’s his story to tell. She remains close to her father despite the divorce.
